Took my PIP to the dealer this morning (had to make an appointment) to have it disabled at no charge.
I don't need Advil anymore, that sucker only beeps once now. Ahhhh.
    Serenity now!

Amazing that the reverse gear beeping was ear splitting noise inside the car. Before taking posession, I asked for the tech to disable it, which was done in a few moments. Bizzarre at best. Not the usual truck backup beeping outside of the cab. I'll have more postings as we use the new PIP. :spy:

I took mine in and had it disabled this week also. It is the one and only thing I have found I didn't like about my Prius. It is funny how crazy it would make me, I don't know what Toyota was thinking. I could have even justified the beeper if it was on the outside to warn people you were backing up.

My dealer (Piercey, Milpitas) changed it to one beep at no charge. That was the surprising thing: that one could not hear the annoying beep outside the car, where it might do some good to warn passers-by, as is the case for commercial vehicles.

It doesn't bother me, and perhaps I don't back up as much as everyone else. :)

It was driving both my wife and myself bonkers as we backed out of the garage to the street. The single beep is just fine as a reminder, thank you.

Boy did I choose the wrong dealer. Toyota of Hollywood refuses to do it, says it is a liability issue.

I can understand how dealers may not want to disable the seat belt beep for liability reasons, but how the backup beep, which cannot be heard outside the car, is a "liability issue" escapes me.

That's pure Bull. The reverse beep is only inside of the car not outside, and it's there to let you know that you are in reverse. The shift controller goes back to neutral position after it's selected so one beep still lets you know your in reverse. Toyota made it optional one beep or continuous , so you can select one beep.

Our dealer initially said no to "disabling" the beep but did say yes when asked to change it to the single beep.

Is the beep louder than on previous models? The beep on my 2008 was annoying when I first bought the car but it doesn't bother me any more. I hope to pick up my PiP from Dianne in a week or so.

Were you talking to a sales person or service person? Reverse beep feature is listed as one of the things that the dealer can customize for Toyota wouldn't put it in the manual if there was a liability issue.

+1 Especially knowing how conservative Toyota is about liability issues, as illustrated by them disabling many features on the navigation system when the car is moving. My dealer charged changing the backup beep to their internal new car make-ready account, even though I had already accepted the car. $0.00 to me.

By any chance know what page in the manual so I can point it out to the dealer when I get there?
