Hi. I noticed this post date was 2011. Is this price still available in 2012? I am going in to negotiate with the dealer tomorrow for my new Prius 2012 model 4. He suggested I needed extended warranty because of all the electronics. His price was $34 per month for addtional 6 years which seems to work out to the MRSP you have quoted of $1850.

No, the cost is the same for all variations of the Prius (Prius, Prius v, Prius c, and the Prius Plug-In).

I bought new Prius couple weeks ago, I decide to buy an extended warranty. However, I have a question about this. Should I buy extended warranty right away or should I wait until 2,5 year and buy it? Thank you

Well...time and mileage always start effective from the original in-service date and mile 0. So you don't gain anything by waiting other than keeping your money in the bank a little longer. However, pricing is subject to change so the longer you wait the more risk there is that the cost will go up.

So I usually tell people that there's no rush, but I wouldn't wait 2 or 3 years either.

I tried to read as much of the recent posts but couldn't find the answer.

Are the other warranty plans available to purchase at a discount? Such as the 5 year/125k

I just bought a used Prius with 100,000 miles on it. Can I buy one of these warranties too?

Sorry, I can only sell the Toyota Extra Care plans if the vehicle is still within the manufacturer's 3 yr / 36K factory warranty. There's nothing I can do a 100K+ car.

Yes, the policy can be transferred to the next owner for a $50.00 transfer fee.

So the dealer told me I HAD to buy the warranty the day of purchase or I couldn't get the Platinum warranty and was stuck with the original 3/36 warranty. Of course it was $2200. Is it possible to get this cancelled (it was 10 days ago) and get the warranty thru Troy? I feel quite taken advantage of.

I just bought my new 2012 prius on april 7 2012, i had purchased the 96 month 100k mile warranty from Universal Underwriters for 2100 dollars, Now when i called to cancel it, the finance person who did all the paper work explained that it cannot be done easily.. there is alot of paperwork, I must come into the dealership ( which is 40 miles away), it may affect my GAP coverage and at the end he said that if i cancel it i may not be able to get coverage on the car? Is he just handing me bullcrap? Cause im going to save a ton buying it online at warrrantyshack

They're just trying to make it difficult for you becuase they don't want you to cancel it. The warranty has no bearing on your GAP coverage, they're separate plans that have nothing to do with each other. And even if your current policy was an actual Toyota one it wouldn't make any difference. Cancelling one policy has nothing to do with your eligibility to purchase another.

Not easily. You'd have to re-finance the car and have the new bank cut two checks (one to pay off the current loan, and one to us for the warranty) but it's technically possible.
