Does the PIP have a pre-heater ?

Before I spent money on an electric blanket, I would check out the heated front seats to see if that heat was adequate. Also, I'd want to know how much power the blanket draws before I would invest in one. The order page says nothing about the blanket power draw.

sweet! when my wife and i were datting in 1977, i was driving a TR-4 with no floorboards and no heat. i had that same blanket in the car (without the electric) for her when i picked her up for a date. i got it from the bank when i opened a savings account. i'm still not sure why she married me.

Yeah I found a range from 4 amps to the 6.7 amps you noted. Weird the 48 Watts ones were higher rated than the 81 Watt one. May be the quality of the blanket.

Heated seats, electric blankets etc. are all well and good for keeping the occupants of the car warm, but that would not be my concern, I can wear more clothing.
What I would see as more useful would be the facility to keep the windows clear of ice and mist and that would be the main reason I'd want a pre-heater for winter.

The problem with pre-heating in humid climates is that the windows fog up - requiring us to run heater to defog. I guess better than having to scrape the windows if you park outside.

I have some control with the HHR's remote start by presetting the HVAC controls. The rear defroster automatically comes on in the cold.

I'm surprised these EVs and PHVs aren't more sophisticated in their preconditioning.

no, for the pip. i'm wondering now if i'm going to have to run the defroster a lot which is going to make the engine come on. i seem to produce a lot of steam singing in the car.:redface:

Ofcourse, there is a way in which to "run" defrost in Leaf by opening the vents to fresh air but not turning on the heater. This makes the car cold more quickly - but not for the first 4 or 5 miles.

With all that hot air, the windows should defrost, already!

Seriously, this exchange is splitting hairs. It takes several minutes to defrost (defog). If the trip is several minutes long we can safely run the ICE and warm the car. If the trip is just a couple of minutes long, it is better to keep the car cold and the windows clear.

My neighbor had his car stolen this morning. He left it running to warm it up and someone just drove it away.

We get that over here in the UK, it's known as frost jacking, people leaving their cars running to defrost the windows.
Most UK insurance companies won't pay out if the car is stolen with the keys in.

what if the car is stolen, but the fob is in your pocket?

What would happen to a Prius if you drove off and left the fob behind (once it was started)? Could you go 100's of miles if you just didn't turn it off? (sorry, off topic question)

Oh yes it will! It'll beep at you (inside and out) and put up a warning message on the MFD, but the car will go as far as you want it to without the fob until it is turned off. Good thing, too - it'd be a pain if your fob battery died and it wouldn't shift!
