Cool. It is road tax free in the UK too :)

A saving of about £200 ($320) per year.

The savings (BIK) if you choose one as a company car are even more substantial. It's the main reason I am considering one when my Merc comes to the end of its lease.

you have some lucky few on the planet.....
but dont you pay something else
like in germany you also do not pay roadtax ( far i know ) but the roadtax is included in the petrol price.
even then the price for petrol in germany is cheaper then in the netherlands
and here in the netherlands we have the biggest shell oil plant in the EU.

We pay both :( Annual car tax (though the Prius is one of two vehicles exempt) and tax on petrol (£1.10 a litre $1.77). There are no government tax incentives other than you sill save on fuel and save money that way. Basically that is the reason I bought the Prius. I should save about £3000 (US$4835)a year in petrol costs which should pay for the car over 5 years. Great eh? Free car :)

In the US some of the road tax is included in fuel tax. I've read that there is some talk that hybrids use much less gas but drive on the same roads as other cars, and EVs use NO gas but still use the roads. Therefore, they are contemplating an ADDITIONAL tax just for hybrids and EVs. How's that for an incentive to use less oil and hlep the environment?

    So the Gen3 is Band A? That means it's <100 g/km CO2? Nice considering it's a 1.8 as well.

My Gen2 is Band C (111-120 g/km CO2) so £35/yr but currently benefits from a £20 discount although this is being phased out over the next two years.

Still £35/yr is cheap compared with my last car a CLK Mercedes that was £200/yr!

That's interesting, I wonder why it's rated higher here? Not a huge issue currently as even if we were rated in Band B 101-110g/km the tax rate is the same.

I don't know what the Gen3 is here other than it is well below the magic 100g/km tax brake :)

Having checked it's Band A and 92 g/km which is very good. The but the same chart has the Gen2 as 104 g/km and Band B and not C as I'd read someplace else.

89g/km is for the 15" alloy model. 92g/km presumably is the 17" alloy model.

    Portugal takes the lead.
Road tax 182€ / yr. Along with a 0,20eur surplus per liter gasoline, when compared to diesel...1,38eur/liter gasoline, 1,18eur/liter diesel...
Here Prius owners/drivers are a lot greener, and wealthier...:p

    Yup. The 15" wheels shave 3g/km off the 17" figure. :) :)

The gen2 being band B and the gen3 being band A was another plus when I was deciding which one to go for. The gen3 is also London congestion charge exempt (not sure if the gen2 is).
