no, but you;ve got me thinking. 3 hours? really? then again, 27" cutting width is pretty weak for a rider.

Yeah I dont see how it has a 3hr battery. Its WAY too small. Maybe if it was lithium batteries but if it had lithiums it would be WAY more than $2100.

I have the Ariens AMP electric riding mower. Its has some issues ( mostly due to it using lead batteries ) but its a much better mower than the recharge mower and it costs about the same and maybe cheaper depending on where you buy it.

See here for my review and current battery issues.

Last time we mowed our own grass we had an electric mower. Push mower, but it was from the 80's and worked just fine. Bright red cord that plugged into the wall. Only a problem to find on the ground if you are red/green colour blind... Like me. :D

I don't see how they can claim 3 hours either... they claim a capacity of "36v38Ah Battery System" - in other words, it's a 36V battery (like having 3 standard car batteries in series) and can produce 38 Amps consistently for 1 hour.

    Powering the blades... 2 x 900w electric motors. That's a total of 1800 W - at 36V, those motors draw 50A combined. Anyone see a problem here?

I do robotics in my spare time, and am very familiar with measuring longevity on a battery. At 50-60A, one of my robots would be unusable after 10 minutes on our 6AH batteries. Sure, their battery is 6 times bigger (at 36AH)... but that still puts them only at an hour!

Once the blade is spinning, it will draw much less than 900w. It only has to overcome the resistance of the grass and wind. That whole pesky object in motion likes to stay in motion thing. ;)

All the same, driving the thing is going to take a ton of power... I didn't really want to get into the "observed but nothing I can point to" realm, but here goes. A 150 lb robot with good wheels typically takes around 30A at 12V to move 5mph. That's not starting up, its continual movement over a bump-free surface. I can't imagine what this would take, given that it probably weighs closer to 300lbs with a 200lb person riding on it. Sure, you get 3 times as much power per amp (due to the increased voltage), but I really doubt that's enough to overcome the added inefficiencies of the extra weight and the typically bumpy lawn that will slow it down.

and mowing grass takes a lot of power. that's why they always say 'the longer and/or wetter the grass, the shorter the run time.' ever see a mower blade when it needs sharpening? amazing what grass does to steel.

My Ariens AMP can pull about 40-60 amps continuous on a light load of cutting. It has a 48v 75Ah SLA battery. The runtime on good new battery is about 60 minutes.

Was that OEM price or was that for "generic" lead batteries if bought elsewhere?

Do you know what kind they were? 7.5Ah, 10Ah, 15Ah?? How many of each? I'm just wondering how much replacement batteries would cost.

2 12v lead acid, don't know the ah, you can probably find it on the solaris website.

I use a 25" riding mower. Perfect size for my big but not ginormous yard (15000 sq. feet).

I'd like to get an electric one, but I'm not sold on them yet.

I cant find the Ah rating but from the picture its about a 17Ah or 20Ah with what looks like a pole type connectors. You could get a set for about $50 I think. You might have to make a wire harness if you got generic batteries as I dont know what to search for to find the right terminals.

As long as the mower ran fine I would try to invest in some lithium batteries as replacements. Expensive up front but should be cheaper in the long run.

Do you still have the mower?
