I just upgraded from a 2009 package 5 with JBL speakers to a 2012 package 3 with nav. I want to upgrade the factory speakers with doing absolutely little or no modifications (plug and play). Does anyone know which brand/model that would fit?

I was pretty happy with the JBL's in the 2009 Prius. Thanks everyone for your imput!

So you were happy w/ 2009 JBL but not 2012? 2010 and up are 10x better than 2009 JBL IMO. Anyway I am installing CDT CL-6E32. Not pnp but close.

JL Audio top of the line. The JBL line is crap IMO, I can hear the bass in the prius JBL speakers and it sounds like crap but to anyone else, it's probably ok. The JBL highs are ok, the stereo isn't loud enough for me but is close however I am still upgrading the amps but I'm not using a crossover this time. (At least not yet)

Since I'm not adding any amps, I just wanted to know if there is anything better then factory that I can just do a simple swap. There's 6 speakers total right?

JL AUDIO. This is what I have but of course like any other company JL Audio makes good, better, best.
    Hope that helps
Find a local dealer of JL Audio and go pick their brain and find out what your needs in sound is. They can also tell you how many and what size you need.

Thanks! I'm going to go down town LA and check out the wholesale district. I haven't been there for years but I know I can get JL's for dirt cheap. Do you know the sizes? Or would they have a book with all the specs?

I don't know the sizes off hand. JL has C3 to C5 models and the link above was their top of the line. When buying, at least get C3 to C5 (they make lower # speakers but... ANything else, you could just keep the JBL IMO. I have the C5... You get what you pay for applies here when it comes to quality and sound. (My statement of, good, better, best... applies)

Yep, the 2012 JBL speakers are not impressive, even on the "high-end" system.

Tommy at Music Box in El Monte, recomended Inifinity Reference series speakers. He said if you are not going to upgrade the amp or head unit that they would work great with the stock head unit and improve the sound.

I'm also interested in doing something to improve the sound system in my car -- I had the JBL speakers in a 2010 pkg 3, and I was very happy with them, but the sound system in the new car is really crappy. How much (ballpark) would it cost to put in something comparable to the JBL, and would this be sufficient to make the sound comparable to what I used to have?

I have to say I've always been unsatisfied when doing business with them.

But they have been in business for a number of years, go figure.

So, go to the site and see what's available, what tools will be needed, how to install and then compare prices with whomever.

Remember, when budgeting $... 1/3rd electronics, 1/3rd software(not really applicable) and 1/3rd environment(sound deadening), well, theoretically...

I went to the Crutchfield site, and did a search to see what was compatible with my car, but nothing came up. I'd really like a ballpark idea of cost to upgrade. Is there anything I can do for under $500?

I have just the 2012 base model, I replaced the fornt door speakers with some Polk 6-1/2. No real need 6x9 in such a small car. I will replace the rear door speakers with the same. The sound has improved a lot, no doubt. I removed the factory speakers, made new frames and installed the Polks. Took a few hours to do.

You wont really be able to do both speakers and head unit for under $500... MAYBE if you do the install yourself... I think (someone correct me if I am wrong) you would be looking at 200-400 for the JBL no nav head unit and 50-100 per speaker. I am also pretty sure that the JBL system uses and amp that the system without doesn't, so that would be an added cost as well. If you upgraded the nav unit to something better you are looking 800-1400 to include the nav.

You can always add an aftermarket amp and speakers and leave the head unit alone. But that would be harder to install yourself. And I still think that $500 would be pushing it. But, I also live in the Chicagoland suburbs where things are amazingly expensive...

I have a 2012 Prius III with Navigation that I'm currently working on now. Parts are ordered. Once I get everything in, I'll try to include some updates and pricing.

    For reference, speaker sizes are:

    Dash - 2" mid (17.5w @ 4ohm)
    Front Door - 6x9" full range (20w @ 4ohm)
    Rear Door - 6" full range (22w @ 4ohm)

Essentially all speakers are about 20 watts @ 4ohm. Stock speakers and mounts are integrated and are riveted in place. You can drill out the rivets easily to remove them. I believe Crutchfield and similar vendors also sell stock wiring adapters if you want to using the existing speaker wiring without cutting or splicing.

    Any other questions?

Im upgrading my speakers soon. Going with
MB quarts 6.5 ONX216 component front.
    Morel 6.5 Maximo coaxial rear
10" bazooka powered sub using speaker level input.

I got everything already and speaker adaptor rings from amazon.com hopefully it will be a fast install.
    That should fill the sound.
