It's still 3 to 4 years from release. Scheduled for 2010 in Japan and 2011 in the UK.

It says it's still a long way from production. But we can hope...

Ok Toyota, come up with something to match that (maybe based around the Yaris?) please so I can buy it in 2010

I like it. It fits all my needs.
It can handle a daily commute including highway, and can handle 2 child seats.
If it really is half the price of a Prius, where do I sign up?

Projected 100 mile range? What does that mean? :unsure: I'm pretty sure that my 60 mile commute over two 3k foot mountains would kill it. How about a plug-in bio-diesel hybrid, instead?

That car would be perfect for the 15k of driving that my Prius does every year.

You are right, of course. I was just letting my frustration with the "not technically feasible" crap they keep feeding us slip out. We all know that better PZEVs or even ZEVs are easily feasible with current technology. This is an incremental step, but my frustration leads me to bash it as not far enough or fast enough. Sorry about that.

It would work for me too with room to spare. I also could plug in at both ends of an electric commute if needed. Very nice.

I would settle for anything affordable right now (or within the next year). I'm also getting frustrated with promises, and projections, and pie-in-the-sky.

Has anyone inquired with any of the EV companies who are promising "affordable EVs" lately? And by this, I naturally exclude builders with $100k exotic sports car models. There is deafening silence. NOBODY responds to inquiries about where they are with production, and if they are going to be able to meet their expected distibution dates and retail prices. Even company web sites go without being updated. It makes them seem like a bunch of scam artists who have no intention of actually coming up with the goods!

I'm a Real Estate Appraiser and RE Agent with a 25 minute recharge that auto would work for me and I drive a lot each day!

The technology is not there yet. There's alot at stake here. If any one of these car mfg's comes out with a battery car and misses with reliability, you can kiss your electric vehicles bye bye for a long time. Think of the Olds diesel from the early 70's. I'm not sure how big the market is either. I think Toyota is taking their time with this because they can. They already have their marketing tool with the Prius, why risk losing what they have when it's not quite the right time for all this to happen. It will happen and I think Toyota will be the first to make it happen, and happen right on all fronts. I want it too, but we have to be patient. Get your solar PV panels up so your ready, that and an electric vehicle would kick the oil boys hard between the legs.
