Has anyone here ever tried to see how fast their prius would go? Or enter it into a racing event?

    Just wondering.

Several have had their Prius over 100mph.
A few have entered some races with mixed results...but it's not a race car, it was just for fun and to set a benchmark.

The top speed is electronically limited to somewhere around 109 mph, give or take a few.

130.794MPH at the Bonneville Salt Flats. Of course it was a slightly modified prius with the speed limitation removed.

Wow, all that to get 130 MPH. I would have thought the superior aerodynamics of these cars would allow for somewhat higher speeds with less modifications. Interesting.

I think I had mine to 174 or there abouts on flat level ground with 3 people aboard and luggage for a 2 week holiday. It was on the speed limiter and I held it there for several minutes.

I rented a 2008 package 6 Prius back in June. Went up a very steep hill, Carlos Bee Blvd leading to Cal State U. East Bay, floored the pedal and the car accelerated up the hill. I was surprised.

I baby my own car and do not go pedal to metal. So, I don't do unto other's cars as to my own.

I wonder if Toyota will try again with the new 2010 Prius to break it's own record.

I can tell you that I traded a '99 Mustang convertable V6 in on my Prius.
I had a game of going from my entrance on the interstate and seeing how fast I could go to the first exit... about 1/4 mile. The Mustang would go 92mph before needing to slow down for the exit....
The Prius goes 88mph in the same distance... :cheer2: Not bad for our little girl. Only thing I miss about not having the Mustang is not being able to peel the top back. I'm afraid I'll jump ship on the Prius at the first change of getting a hybred convertable  ....... jf

That 130mph was quite some time ago, if I remember. It'd be interesting w/ so many companies making aftermarket PHEV kits to see what one of those suckers would do. After all, once the pack is partially depleated getting up to speed, it really doesn't help any more. But w/ another 3 or 4kwh ?? who knows.

In a let's say 6 minute race discharge, the extra 4 kwh would yield 40 kw which corresponds to around 53 hp, obviously very significant. But to deliver that to the propulsion motor, the propulsion inverter would have to either deliver a suitably high voltage, or the motor would have to be re-wound to draw more current at the available voltage. Not cheap or simple! Sounds like fun, though!

107 on flat ground here near pahrump, open desert road.

fastest on down grade was 110, but the car was acting strange and the limiter was mad.

the stock tires are only rated up to 112 mph.

that doesnt mean you can't go over that range, just would be unwise for more then a couple minutes. But it's not an issue in this car

putting Z rated tires or whatever on a prius is dumb though, Ive seen some of that

cool. the salt flat racer seems to be a package #6.

the prius is NOT a racer. however, it's good to blow out the exhaust every once in a while by opening up the throttle. the prius is more like a "zen" type of car. nice, peaceful, etc.

    hehehehe

    happy holidays

107 mph a couple times. It won't let you go any faster on level ground.
