Typical response from someone that knows nothing of the fire/ems profession.

Have you ever cut a car apart? Or have you ever had to work with one involved in a accident?

If you had you would know that not everything is a perfect world and that in serious accidents gaining access to the hood or trunk without cutting beforehand is impossible in some cases. You would also know that in severe crashes vehicle parts tend to shift and relocate from there original positions.

You would also know that the toyota ERG book is no more than a guideline to a PROPERLY TRAINED fire/ems worker.

Properly trained workers are required to follow guidelines as presented by USDOT NFPA and their state. Not following said guidelines could cost them their licenses.

The reason we have to follow said guidelines is its far easier to establish a set of guidelines that works across the board for every vehicle than it is to learn a set of guidelines specific to every hybrid model out there.

If you had any training in Fire/EMS you would know that your personal safety comes first. The person you are rescuing is second

Just curious: Is your main goal 1) to discredit Efusco (who knows a little bit more about fire/EMS than you think), 2) to continue the drivel your friend started here and in the thread you quoted from, or 3) simply to bait and troll? Judging from your tone here and in your other posts, I suspect #3, which, assuming you really are a member of the fire/EMS profession, embarrasses me as another member.

Why does this thread start with a quotation? Is this a continuation of an older closed thread, one that the OP couldn't let go of?

EVERYTHING you say here has been discussed repeatedly here over the past 40 hours.
So you want to start on a blank chalkboard, just because you are too lazy to go read up?

The others were too lazy or flighty to participate in a constructively dialog. If you are different, then here are some of the posts that still need useful replies:
    Prius Myths - documentation please?
Prius Myths - Neither USDOT or NFPA promulgates rules that govern responders.

This information came directly from links provided by supposed EMS folks on the Powerstroke site, who promptly tried to discredit it:

This was a quote from another thread in which this topic was, well... off topic.
So I am glad this was moved off into it's own thread so it could be discussed on it's own merits (which seem to be almost none).
How about some facts. For example, a link to the guidelines for EMS training that refer to hybrids?
Also, in this training, are there any precautions taken for dealing with the standard battery all cars carry, the fuel tank or other dangerous areas of the vehicle?

Jimbo I am truly a member of the fire ems profession. Your lack of knowledge on training makes me wonder about you.

You are right the NFPA standard is not in writing as of yet. But will be updated next year.

If it isn't in writing, it doesn't exist.

Now, what about the USDOT that you've talked about?

    Dave,
I have the honor of knowing and working with many members of the ems profession. Sadly your prejudicial attitude and your negative perspective make me wonder about you.
While most ems are trained to take care of themselves first it is because they are trained to not "become the second victim". Any good ems would certainly not stand-by and watch someone die due to a misconceived prejudicial concept such as being electrocuted by a hybrid - they would jump into grounding the car and discharging it safely. A real ems would take the risks into perspective and work to save the people. A real ems has seen to many people die to stand by and deliberate whether they like the person's personal vehicle choice.
You my friend have a very long way to go.
P.S. A real ems would have been sickened by that monster truck vs prius video and would quickly take steps to seperate him/herself from anyone who would post such a thing.
I am done with you and this thread - simply not worth my time.

DaveFDEMS appears to be quad. If I'm not mistaken didn't he give his name as Dave?

Time to slay these trolls who have nothing contructive to contribute.

There are people who will do things by the book.
But those who do not think about his/hers own safety to jump in to save a life, we call them HEROes.

As to JimboK saying the USDOT having no regulatory power over EMS in the other thread I have a question for him

Jim have you ever heard of the highway safety act of 1966?

It wasnt answered when I read it this morning:D

Got a link I cant find the thread anymore.

Oh and heres the standards you wanted me to post. I was wrong about one thing it wasnt an USDOT standard its an OSHA standard.

There wont ever be hybrid specific NFPA rule because there doesnt need to be one. NFPA already has standards regarding electrical systems because of that there is no need for one that is hybrid specific

    Heres your info http://www.drwenterprises.org/downloads/HybridVehiclePPE.pdf
