First Drive: 2009 Toyota Matrix (Tidbit Inside!)

We saw the cart before the horse, with teaser pictures of the all-new 2009 Pontiac Vibe hatchback being presented before Toyota released the official pictures and information on its ’09 Matrix, which more likely took the engineering lead for the two. Then the curtain came up on the Matrix at the 2007 SEMA show, followed weeks later by the Vibe at the 2007 Los Angeles auto show.

Now that we’ve driven the horse—before Pontiac got us behind the wheel of the Vibe—we can share a few things that are bound to be common driving characteristics between these completely redesigned crossovers.

good, so you decided to read this thread. Perfect. Here's the BIG NEWS

"Toyota says it expects at least 30 mpg from its new small cars, and the Matrix and the Vibe have both been engineered to accommodate a hybrid powertrain as well, which we expect to hear more about within a year or so."

Don't know what happened to your link Tideland, but as soon as I tried to link to the full article, I was hit with a massive virus attack.

Luckily my virus protection worked. Now those of you running macs will probably laugh at this (I know my daughter would), but for us stuck in Mircosoft world, it is a problem.

So if you are running Microsoft, recommend that you don't try to read the full article.:(

Hmm.. my link goes straight to the Car and Driver webpage on the Matrix. I could double check the link and see if anything pops up.

Edit: Clicked on it. Nothing popped up. I do have many scripts disabled though so maybe that's why?

Besides, the bold bit I copied is probably the only thing you need to know hahaha.

Maybe you should remove the link altogether, just to be safe.

Anyway, the Vibe looks much nicer, once again proving Toyota's inability to make a decent looking car!
