Ford sees bump in hybrid sales

One of my favorite sources is Dashboard:

A few data points, November 08 to November 09:

• +11.1% - Prius
• +21.0% - All hybrids
• -0.1% - All vehicles
• 09 Year to Date order
  • Prius, Camry, Insight, Civic, Fusion, Escape

For a first model year, Ford is doing good. I am looking forward to the December and year-end report.

I like the chart that shows that nearly half of all hybrids sold were Priuses.:rockon:

 

We like ours, about as much as we liked our Gen2 Prius (now owned by my inlaws).

There are clear tradeoffs between the two. Prius wins on MPG and hatchback versatility. FFH wins on ride, handling, and safety (due to larger size).

I'm just hoping to see a larger set of hybrid choices (especially a true wagon version of a Fusion or Prius) by the time we buy our next car a few years from now.

 

I tend to view a smaller car as more safe, as it is more agile and easier to maneuver and avoid an accident in the first place. Sure, if you are going to hit, based on F=ma, you are better off in the larger vehicle, but I prefer to swerve out of the way and avoid the accident in the first place. There are active drivers and passive drivers. I suppose if you are a passive driver, you would be best off in a larger vehicle. If you are an active driver, a larger car is a handicap. It's like putting a 40 pound backpack on you and telling you to dodge objects being thrown at you; it doesn't exactly help you out.
