Can anyone explain the exact boundaries we get free metered parking? Is it LA County or LA City? What is LA City? Manhattan Beach no, Santa Monica yes, Culver City no, Downtown yes? There has to be somewhere/someone that can definine the finite boundaries

    thanks

LA City only, and only with a HOV sticker. Not sure about the exact borders though.

Albuquerque, another city that allows free meter parking for hybrids, requires a window sticker that can be picked up at the downtown city offices.

The free metered parking for some hybrids (Prius, HCH, Insight, and Ford Escape Hybrid) in the CITY of Los Angeles was in effect for about a year before clean air stickers for a subset of those hybrids were available; the Ford Escape hybrid qualifies for free parking but not clean air stickers. It can be concluded that clean air stickers were not and are not required for the free parking of the specified hybrids in LA.

The wording in the parking info blurb ( http://www.lacity.org/ladot/freepark.htm ) is ambiguous. There are a number of previous threads dealing with this subject and the requirement for clean air stickers never entered into them.

Finding out whether or not you are in LA can be more difficult.

If the street name signs have a navy blue background, you are more likely than not within the Los Angeles City limits.

Any word as to whether the free parking pilot program in Los Angeles has been extended beyond June 30?

With two weeks left for free parking in Los Angeles, surely someone knows or cares if the program is ending or being extended.

...so this would imply free metered parking at LAX, right?

I think that all the parking meters have been taken out. One of the metered parking lots, by Terminal 4, has been converted to valet parking.

There are a lot of exceptions. Private lots do not offer free parking (and some of those have meters). State property (like at state universities) are not included in the free parking program. And as has been posted above, there are communities inside or adjacent to the City of Los Angeles that are NOT within CIty limits, and they do not offer free parking.

I cant seem to find an updated map, just a general paragraph about it. I heard Santa Monica and Hermosa Beach have extended the free parking with a low emission vehicle sticker. Is there any new info out there? it would be nice to have a map to print out to carry with me in the car

A few weeks ago, on a Saturday, I parked at mid-Wilshire and happened to see a meter maid. Rather than risk the $35 ticket, I asked her about the free parking. She confirmed I had the sticker, looked at her watch, and said I had an hour (or 30 minutes, I can't remember). Good thing, because I don't carry change on me.

I don't know about Hermosa Beach, but as far as I can tell, Santa Monica passed the modifying ordinance on March 13, and it is supposed to take 30 days to become active. On the other hand, I see other evidence that the new 3.16.120 took effect much earlier. Does anyone know what the actual situation is?
