    Thought "Newb" was a little boring...

    I'm an electro-mechanical engineer by education and systems architect by practice. I look forward to exploring the integration of charging the Plug-in Prius in a real-time charging rate scheme.

    Welcome to PriusChat! I hope you enjoy your Prius as much as I have enjoyed mine.

    Hi Will do you have a new PiP? That's cool.
    A while back, Dominion had an off-peak charging test program that would be nice for cheaper charging at night.
    Don't know if that's still an option, or if you have Dominion.
    At least we got rid of the VA $64/yr hybrid fee, but if you bought prior to July1, well I guess you had a one-time $64 hybrid fee.

    They have a number of programs, including the one you mention. Oddly enough, the EV program has aggregate rates of over $.14/kWh during peak (which is between 6am and 10pm(!)), while the std residential rate is roughly 1/2 that. Since the PiP doesn't take much power to charge, the present approach may suffice for now, until real-time pricing and smart meters are available in my area.

    OK...not sure...PriusChat member DadofHedgehog has a PiP in NoVA and I think they gave him a smart meter for the car, but I am not sure how it worked. You are only the third VA PiP owner I am aware of on Prius Chat ....we also have Don-1- ,

    Some portions of NoVA can get smart meters now (mostly in and around the Beltway). I'm much farther out (have a small sheep farm out past Leesburg);

    Went 14 miles EV today on my first outing until the Eco mode took over.

    I'm in virginia as well, but serviced by Novec rather than Dominion.
