I've been driving this Plug In like a 911 turbo and no matter how hard I gun it uphill or down my mph guage shows 49.....been like this for nearly a month. No complaints here but what gives?

Lets be clear, no matter what speed you drive, the big speedometer reports 49 MPH? That should be a warranty issue.
(my v has a screen where it reports average MPH, 49 would be believable)

If you meant 49 MPG, You may only be on a screen you did not expect.

So, where exactly are you seeing that number ?

Mine shows various MPG numbers on about 5 different screens and they
all mean something different. Several are long term averages.

Correction: Meant to say MPG not MPH..... and I rarely use battery (about 60 miles total battery miles / month)

I am pleasantly surprised that no matter how "hard" or "soft" I drive I'm averaging about 49 mpg. My point of reference has always been my "Trip A" gauge.

Easy Rider: How do 5 different screens yield 5 differing meanings? I'm simply interested in how many overall miles per gallon I'm getting between fill ups.

How many miles are on your TripA gauge?

The more miles on it, the more stable the reading should be. I prefer to reset on the the trip gauges daily, that gives rapid feedback. The other trip meter is used for the whole tank.

Ah, so it IS mpg not mph as you wrote.

I track 3 MPGs on my v: instant MPG on the ScanGauge, tank average on the trip odometer, and life time average on the odometer. They almost never match.

The mileage should fluctuate soon after a fill-up if you reset the Trip odometer.

    So I have to ask:
If you rarely use battery, WHY did you get a "plug-in" model ??
You paid more for something that you are not using.

For my '13 C; might be different for your model:
There is trip A and trip B that will give different averages depending on when
they were reset. Then there is the displayed MPG average for the current trip which
gets reset automatically with each start.
THEN there are a couple of "energy score" screens which I haven't mastered yet and I think
one of them gives a long term average MPG.

If you reset trip A, for instance, every time you fill the tank, that display should give you the
    measure that you want.

Maybe he is using the battery but only getting 49 MPG. If he had a regular Prius, he could be getting 40 MPG.

Who knows... let's wait for OP's response.

The guy is from LA; perhaps he bought it to gain HOV access.

PFG, it would save confusion for new readers of your thread if you would edit your original post to MPG and that your are talking about Trip A screen. Best to note as 'corrections'. Thanks (y)

Yes, I am from LA. Yes I bought a Plug in to access carpool, HOV and free metered parking in Santa Monica. And of course I pocketed $1500.00 cash from the CA Rebate.

...I'm also a huge fan of Ted Nugent but that's neither here nor there

I would think tank average is most accurate if you're trying to measure actual MPG b/w fill ups.

The novelty of battery mode quickly faded (about 24 hours after I purchased car). I use about 60 battery miles per month
