    do you actually go 15 with a charge or is that what it says?

    You're right because in a trip of 50 miles I was able to run 18 EV miles by toggling the EV button.
    My commute is 16.1 miles round trip. At first I was using 14 EV and 2 HV miles and my EV charge was 14.2 miles. After playing with the EV switch I was able to use 14 EV miles and 1 HV mile but got home with more than 1 EV mile unused.
    Now I'm using other basic techniques to use just EV miles. Lask weak I was able to get home without the motor turning on with 0.1 EV unused ( and I didn't push or tow the car haha). That was a luck day because the has stop signs, traffic lights, hills and highway (0.5) mile). Usually now the starts running just a few blocks way from home (15 EV 0 HV) and the EV charge is 15.1 .

    When I turn mine on after a charge, mine says I can go 10 or 10.1. Haven't measured the distance I actually travel though. Would be nice to see it sitting at 13.4......

    I think that's the answer to a different question, though. I hinted at it earlier. This original question seemed to be less about 'true range' than it was about the PiP's static range at start up on a 'full charge'.

    The question about true dynamic range will be much more difficult to answer because of the regen capabilities of the PiP. We can at least know at start-up on a "full charge" that the number on the screen is what the PiP's computer is reporting. Where it goes after that - will be the topic of many discussions, I predict. I think I got way more than 13.1 miles on my drive today, but without some way to measure that exactly, all I can say is I got 'way more'… I guess if I look very closely at the regen data I might be able to piece it together.

    Unfortunately, I've got real work to do!

    12.3 was the range on the display this morning. But, I was able to go 16.1 miles in EV mode.

    This poll is about what the EV range shows when you start up right? I would like to see a picture of the 15 range. 12.5 is the largest I've seen on my PIP. Yes, you will get more than the range, but I find it hard to believe it reads 15 on screen.

    All numbers from the screen are without running the fan. Reality is just over 1 mile on surface streets and then on the Freeway at 55MPH so 'pure EV', no ev/hv mix at this speed.
    New, I saw 12.9, then it steadily dropped to 11.1. It has gradually worked back up to 11.5.
    In reality I get 12.6 before the ICE turns on.

    I don't need a picture. I have driven 17.3 miles on pure EV and I know I could repeat it if I wanted to (and that was done in colder weather and before I increased my tire pressure).

    I have driven enough to know that I 15 miles is reasonable if you drive without starting and stopping very often and you don't drive at highway speeds.

    If you drive fast (55 mph) or if you accelerate and decelerate quickly you will never see 15 miles.

    This is the key. I used to get up to speed quickly in my GenII Prius, and that helped me get into high mileage range more quickly. Not sure this GenIII is acting the same way.

    I have yet to find a coast, though I guess it could be right on the line between Charge and Power. Even there I still feel a drag - not like the pure coast you could get into on a GenII.

    Here is my route...all on EV:

    About 1 mile at 45-50 mph, then
    About 2 miles at 60-62 mph (65 mph zone, but don't want ICE on), then
    School zone at -5 mph (at least it FEELS that slow), then
    About 2 miles at 45-55 mph with 5 red lights.

    Stop. Plug in at work and reverse on the way home. Minus the school zone.

    It is possible to go to and from work on one charge (barely), but I charge at work so I can make the bead and milk run on the way home if my wife calls on me.

    1) I suspect that the part of your drive that 'burns' up the most EV for you is the 2 miles you drive at 60-62 mph. When I drive that fast, I can see my EV range plummeting.

    2) Another possible reason for your low EV range might be due to the stop lights. If you accelerate rapidly after being stopped you will also greatly your EV miles.

    Both items mentioned above also contribute to reducing the traction battery's capacity prematurely (as stated in the user's manual). Thus, for more EV miles and battery health (long term capacity), I try to avoid both.

    So you take it off of EV when you leave a red-light?

    You might want to try taking it off the EV mode for the 60+mph portion and see if that increases the fully charged range. However, you need to remember that it takes about a minute for the ICE engine to cycle up, so you need to switch over about a minute before you are going to be driving at that speed.

    tlowe, i think you're getting the correct range for the speeds you drive. mine is more in the 30-50 range and a 15 mile average.

    so far, my 2 15 miles inbound commutes have been in stop and go traffic (more than 1 hour each), and other than the climate control being turned on, the commute was entirely in pure EV. This morning the EV miles displayed as 12.8, however, I made it the entire 15 mile commute with the EV range at the end still showing 1.1 miles remaining. I had the climate control "off", for most of the trip. I am very happy with the PiP, as it's meeting my goal of nearly %100 EV commuting. My gas gauge hasn't even moved a single pip yet :), EV/HV ratio is showing %53 EV / %47 HV so far.
    This morning's commute was 14.9 miles, 199mpg :)

    Nissan Leaf? Ford Focus EV? Tesla? pffft, don't seem to really need one :)
