I tried to see if I could improvise a Heads-up Display by projecting the speedometer image on the windshield using two mirrors, one on the back of the speedometer and another one hand held in front of it. It ‘kind of’ works :)…

So, that fishing pole is going 0 MPH, huh? :D

Usually "real" HUDs use a specially-surfaced area on the windshield so the projected image works well in differing light. However, that's not a bad attempt!

I was also curious about how to get that projection up onto the windshield...thanks for the creativity and the videos. I would like to keep the factory speedo and add another projector closer to where the factory HUD is. Not sure I'm motivated enough to buy one (as i'm sure they're not cheap) and cut up the dash just yet though...

I understand that the European Prius offers a HUD - how does that work? Mirrors? Extra display/projector in the dash?

There have been several efforts documented on PriusChat of features being added, could what is done for Euro Prii be adapted to ours?
