Hello guys! Sorry for my poor English.

My girlfriend purchased her brand new 2008 Prius in March 2008 from Utah's Toyota dealer. The car currently has 18000 miles on it. All the services were done by the certified dealer.

She is leaving this country soon and she could sell the car to me for $15000 (the car is under my name and I do not have to pay taxes again).

However, I am leaving the US and going back to Germany in December 2010 and I have to sell this car then. I am wondering if it is a good idea to get this Prius at $15000 now? I mean, the new generation of Prius is coming and will I loose a lot of money when I sell it next December?

Or is it a a good decision to get an used Corolla (e.g. 2006 CE 60000miles $7500+taxes still have to sell it next year.)

    Thanks a lot!

Hans---I have a 2008 Prius and it seems that $15,000 is a good price BUT personally, if the Corolla is in good shape, I would buy that. I think it will get you through next year for less overall cost.

Thank you John. It seems the new Prius will hit the value of current Prius heavily. :)

No! Saving a round of registration tax does help. The G2 Prius will continue to be a highly desirable car. In the likely event that fuel prices have increased by that time, the Prius will depreciate negligibly.

If gas prices go up enough during the next 18 months, you could even see the value of the car increase. One year ago, my 2007 was worth at least $8,000 more than I'll get for it today. If prices go back up, the car could increase in value. Further miles will cause some depreciation, but not too much.

$15K for a 2008 with those miles is a good deal. If it is a package #4 or #6, it is a really good deal.

That's Package #2. She got the car when the gas price is the highest in 2008 and she paid $26,000
