Got my first prius 2001

I bought my first prius yesterday. Its a 01 with 150000, and well taken care of. 4000 out the door. they replaced the rear wheel bearings, and the cat converter. all recalls done. now here is the issue:
No cruise control or cd player.
Cruise I can take care of, buying steering wheel assy from metrotoyota for $151.
The cd thing has me a bit perplexed with this whole y harness thing, What do I need to get this working?
I found a couple players on ebay, (going to keep this as stock as I can)

Sorry no replies Scott. I can't help you with the install but I can say "Congratulations" and "Welcome to Prius Chat". I have owned my '01 since May of '08. It has been a great car. I did install an aftermarket CD Player in mine (Dual XDMA 6630). I now have Bluetooth, Ipod control and an Aux input. I love it. If you are going to take this on, read this first.

I'd like to suggest an alternative on the CD drive: cassette adapter:


I use one with my iPad but the same adapter also works with any headphone output device. The beauty is you can carry the player into a restaurant or work and get a lot more utility than if it sits in the car all the time.

BTW,

If you can build a simple, multi-switch box with resistors, a functional, equivalent cruise control can be added to your car:

• cancel switch - push to close, return to open
• set/coast switch - push to close, return to open
• resume/accelerate switch - push to close, return to open
• cruise on/off switch - push to close, return to open
• R1, R2, and R3 - I have to look these up over at the Yahoo Group, "Prius Technical Stuff"

One wire goes to ground and the second to the hybrid vehicle electronic control unit (HV ECU.) You select the switch and mount and have a custom, cruise control. So you can mix different styles of switches, toggle, twist, raised button, or recessed button. It can be a lot cheaper than the steering wheel modification.

I also use a cassete adaptor for my Mp3 player and it worked fine untill last week when it ran the battery on my
Mp3 down , untill I find out why I'm a little leary to use it.

There is a wiring diagram, which you can get in book form from Toyota or view online at tis.toyota.com (where $15 will get you two days of access). It will tell you what pins are what, and what connections are needed for things to work. You might find helpful commentary too by searching this forum for related posts (DICE iPod integration in G1 - results! is one example that concerned which connections were needed to get a third-party iPod adapter working right).
For cruise, IMHO the $151 kit from Metro Toyota is hard to beat—there is nothing to research or fabricate, you drop the parts in and it works. And it includes a new steering wheel (at the ages of our Classics, the original steering wheel may be near to showing signs of deterioration from UV and/or skin oils).

For your CD-Y cable, here is exactly what you need (I've tested it with both the USA-Spec PA15-TOY iPod/line in kit coexisting with the Blu-Logic Bluetooth retrofit kit, as well as the CD player and the Blu-Logic kit, worked great with both installations, currently running just the bluetooth as I'd rather use the spot where the CD player sits for storage since I my audio collection is sitting pretty on my smartphone).

Do not, and I repeat, do not have them ship to a PO box, or be prepared to pay $20 in shipping for a cable.

Also did the cruise control retrofit...easy to do, get a crow's foot wrench to help get off the old brake light switch and put the new one in.

Another thing, I took out my fill plug in the Trans to check the level and it was good but upon removing it I noticed that there was air pressure in the Transmission. I think positive air pressure, to me this is not normal, but this is my first hybrid Trans, so my question is, is this normal on this transmission or do I have a breather blockage, if so where is the breather located

I seem to remember reading about this years ago, I think the pressure is negative and is normal. Search PC

Ok, good, I'll look into it, that makes me feel better. Are there any mods I can do to help the mg2 operate cooler.

None that I'm aware of. I would definitely recommend changing the tranny fluid though. This link should help.

I noticed that at night my center dash buttons (radio, a/c buttons) do not light up. now I know there are some bulbs behind there, but my issue is, getting the fascia off without breaking it. I tried getting it off and its extremely hard and I am afraid of breaking it as they are hard to come by. Has anyone had success getting this off without breaking it, is there a technique to it other than just prying on it. the other thing is my mfd light is really dim and i have it turned up all the way, I knew it used to be brighter than that, i think my father may have messed with it. it works and all but its dim as heck.

There is a brightness control on the lower left of the steering wheel. Make sure no one has turned it to maximum dark.

and upon changing the dash lights I want to go full led on it to save power and reduce heat in the dash, has anyone done this. Im thinking of getting these but I dont know if I solder it to the board if i will have enough room with the resistor being there.

Lower instrument panel to left of steering column . . . if I remember correctly.

I had a satellite, FM adapter installed many years ago and the installer broke half of the plastic tabs that hold the facia on. He was happy to use a horrible looking soldering iron to repair the tabs but I resolved not to go there unless I had some stiff wire to make a better repair.
