I have been trying to program our new Prius's Homelink to our Genie Screwdrive garage door. It has the Intellicode which tells me it uses rolling codes. I followed the instructions in the owners manual but I cannot get the Homelink to program to our garage door opener. Anyone else have any issues? The garage door opener's manual says its Homelink compatible. I push the black learn button and the light starts blinking. I have my wife push and hold the Homelink 1 button for 2 seconds. I have her release and push and hold the button again for 2 seconds. Nothing. I even had her try holding the button again for 2 seconds. Nothing.
I'd have to go read my namual again but there are two parts for the homelink system, m ake sur eyou read the second page/section that deals with rolling codes. I did mine as if it was a 'regular' opener w/o rolling code and then when I tried it with the rolling code part it worked fine. I'll look later and post back if you still didnt get it to work.
I got it to work just like that. I did the pointing of the remote with the homelink button, along with the learn button. This made Homelink work but lost connectivity with the remote, which I reprogrammed. Now all is well. Thank you very much!!
You can find directions for your model vehicle and opener at homelink.com. Homelink said to hold down the outer buttons until the indicator changed from red to green the first time the system is programmed. After that step the procedure in the manual worked.
Thanks for the link to homelink. I have two generations of garage door openers: one over 9 years old and one just installed last year. They operate on two different frequencies. With my 2001 Dodge I could not operate the newer door opener. I had almost given up on using the homelink in my 2010 Prius to open the older door opener. By going to homelink's website and using the instruction manual for the older door opener I have been successful in programming the Prius to open both door openers. TK
This is an interesting discussion because I have had the same problem. I followed the directions in the manual exactly like it said, first with the remote (several times), then made sure it was cleared, then did it several times for the rolling code. Regardless of what I did, I could not get it to program. Currently we are simply carrying our remote with us in the car which is a major bummer. When I programmed my last vehicle with the rolling code, it took it immediately, with two different doors, and worked correctly. In fact even better than the hand-held remote. So I can't figure out what the deal is with the Prius.
I did the homelink in my deville in a similar way. www .homelink .com/programming/programming.taf?do=2 (go to homelink.com follow the links to programm a Homelink, pick yoru car and opener) For first time training, press and hold the two outer HomeLink buttons, releasing only when the HomeLink indicator light begins to flash after 20 seconds. (Do not perform this step when training the additional HomeLink buttons.) Hold both the handheld transmitter button and the HomeLink button you would like to program until the HomeLink flashes slowly then rapidly (then release both buttons) Press and hold the HomeLink button you just programmed. If the garage door opens/closes then programming is complete. If it does not then proceed to step 4. Get a ladder and press and release the “learn” button on the back of your garage door motor head Within 30 seconds get back into your vehicle and press and release the HomeLink button you just programmed up to 3 times or until your garage door activates. Programming is complete.
My older opener is a LiftMaster Formula 1. After going through the instructions from Homelink, above post, I then followed the instructions in the door opener manual. I had my wife in the car; while she held the Homelink button I wanted to program, I was at the wall mounted control and pressed the "light" button, then the "open" button. We did this three times and the Homelink button started working. TK
I'm going to try calling them tomorrow because I've done it every way possible and it still doesn't work. I have an Overhead Door that was installed about 8 yrs ago. It has the "learn" button, and should work just fine with the rolling code methodology but doesn't. Neither does it work with the actual remote, and that's with starting over each time (cleaning the system). Has nobody else had this problem?
We got our Prius in May. We also have a rolling code garage door opener. It took me several attempts to program the button on the mirror and get it to learn the code. As I recall, I had not held the button on the mirror long enough for the light to start blinking rapidly and clearly. Don't give up because you should be able to get it programmed. The directions simply aren't clear. If you don't hold the mirror button long enough, it won't learn the code.
I spoke with Homelink this morning, and they helped me understand something I didn't get from their directions. As I read them, they were "either/or": either you programmed with the remote itself, or you programmed with the learning button etc. for the rolling code. In fact he said you do both. You first clear the deck by pressing both outside Homelink buttons and holding them down until you get the rapid blinking. Then you follow the directions for the handheld remote. Then you push your "learn" button on your opener in your garage, then you do the quicker pushes in your car. I haven't tried it yet, but assume it will work. The point is, if you've got one with the rolling code, you do both operations in order. I'll report back.
The report: it worked like a champ! I did both A and B in that order, after clearing them, and it programmed both doors just fine immediately. Scoreboard!
Are you all ready to REEALLLy get fancy now? How 'bout this ... (thanks to Bill Merchant for help ... pm him if you want to follow up because I don't rember what the heck was involved any more ... but it still works :lol use the extra home link spots on your rear view mirror to talk with your x10 devices at home or work ... so your Prius can turn on coffee makers, AC, home lighting, etc. Make good use of those extra Prius home link connections, rather than hope some day to sync 'em with some other garage door. Edit: oh! I found an old homelink thread on topic. lovin' the search tool (sometimes) .
The above steps are exactly what I had to do. Following the manual didn't work; the above steps do. Thanks for posting the steps. I also have a Genie screw model with a "learn" button.
thanks for the thread ! after 45 minutes of futility with my wife tonight, my experience mirrors the HomeLink instructions for 2010 Prius & Chamberlin garage door opener work after ALL the steps are completed. the Toyota Gen III manual is incorrect or incomplete. Likewise, my Chamberlin Security+ Model 3850 door opener instructions are also incomplete since it assumes programming only for the remotes they supply.
