Tokyo, Japan – Honda has said that it has received some 700 pre-sale orders in one month in Japan for its newly-introduced 2006 Civic Hybrid sedan, which goes on sale in that country on November 22nd. That compares with an average monthly sales target of 500, and actual Japanese sales of 36 per month for the previous Civic Hybrid during 2004.

Compared to the 2005 Civic Hybrid, the 2006 model is 18 per cent more powerful than its predecessor, but with better fuel economy. Honda anticipates annual global sales of 40,000 Hybrid versions, as part of a global target of more than 600,000 Civics. First-month orders for the gasoline-only Civic in Japan were about 2,000 units.

pretty low numbers for japan, i wonder if civic was ever that popular there as 2,000 is really low number (compared to 10,000 corolla's sold per month!)
