Saw it last night. At first glance I thought it was a Prius.

For some reason I couldn't watch the video from the link above, Danny.
But I found it on YouTube. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWhwc7WHv1U]YouTube - Beach Honda Insight Commercial[/ame]
    Very cleverly done.
And dang does that look like a Prius..esp. from the side. I did a few double takes wondering if they were showing a Prius for comparison.

Yeah, the two cars look crazily similar. For instance, Nichole is a much bigger fan of the 2010 than the current gen Prius, and when we saw the commercial she said "Now that is a cool looking car." Then she saw the big "H" on the grill and gasped, "I swear I thought that was the new Prius!"

Of course, she has an affinity for Hondas, so that made it even funnier.

I like it. A little bubblegum hippy trendy, but okay.

i think its a very nice commercial
  6. Tideland Prius
Nice ad! I also had to make sure that the blue out that pulled in front of the silver wasn't a Seaside Pearl Prius!

A hybrid priced for us all!!! Very clever...

Which is why we like to call it the "Hindsight".

    Hi,
That was filmed at Westward Beach in Malibu. Good commercial, good beach

Interesting... Everyone? $1k less than Prius and "everyone" can now afford hybrids? How about for those that can only afford $15k, $16k, $17k, $18k cars?

We won't know how much less expensive the 2010 Insight will be compared to the 2010 Prius until Prius pricing is announced. All we know now is that the 2010 Insight is $2K less than the 2009 Prius. ($19,800 vs $22,000) I personally expect the Insight / Prius gap to grow to between $3,000 and $3,500.

As to "everyone" affording hybrids, it is a commercial. Marketing and facts very rarely coincide.

Price difference is only $1k if you compare a fully loaded Insight EX and Prius package #2.

Not everyone want ASSIST hybrids. There are a lot of people who prefer FULL hybrids.

The trick from the front is the Prius bumper air intake is 'grim' while the Honda lower air intake is a 'smile.' This is how I can tell a Ford Focus from an NHW11. Otherwise the bodies are nearly identical.

Do you have insider information that tells you how much a 2010 package #2 will be? I generally don't compare prices of loaded vs. base vehicles but to each their own I guess.

I doubt many people care or understand how a hybrid system is designed. They only care what the end result is.

I am comparing 2009 Prius package #2 with a loaded Insight EX. Basically, the main differences are:

    - Insight has DVD Nav while 09 Prius has SKS with Push Start Button.
    - Insight has Bluetooh while 09 Prius #2 has Backup Camera.

The other minor features are pretty much the same. Of course, 09 Prius is bigger, faster, and more fuel efficient.

Update: Toyota will be lowering the price of the Iconic Prius in Japan to match the Insight. Competition is good! If the new Insight is a hit in the US, Toyota may go that route or lower the 2010 starting price.
  16. Tideland Prius
True but not everyone can afford a Prius so the Insight will have to do. The only bad part is that VSA is only available on the EX models.
  17. Mormegil
Yep, I recognized it too. Point Dume / Westward Beach is a great beach.

Nice commercial - I hope they sell plenty of Insights.
  18. Trollbait
And using a loaded to unloaded car an unfair comparison. A person willing to pay for NAV in the Insight will liking be looking at NAV in the Prius.
How did you feel about people calling the difference between a fully loaded Camry Hybrid and a stripped Camry price the hybrid premium?
