I bought the 2010 Prius (Canadian model: Base+Premium+Leather seats+a few accessories) yesterday and would like to know if I got the fair deal in town. The highest discount I've read is about $500-$800 off the MSRP. I got mine at $1200+ less than MSRP. Did anyone get more discount than mine? I just have to know to feel better.

    You did well.

I paid $1000 extra back in August, and many were asking for $2000 extra at that time.

I think it depends on the package you're getting. The more you spend, the better discount. I paid 1k less for a package 2 than MSRP.

Although I'm not really at the negotiation stage, the sales rep told me that there wasn't much he could do on the price because it's such a popular car now. Now I know he was lying!

Hi There, I paid 300 less MSRP with solar- and I got technically got the usb iPod for free because it was so new, I think they forgot to charge for it. After we got home, all their price quotes were changed to reflect the USB and iPod price. :)
This dealer gives 300 off MSRP off all their cars off the bat.

I guess it makes difference when you bought the car. People must paid more during CARS program in August.

I got my car Oct. 10 and paid full MSRP although I knew some dealers gave a little incentives at that time. I had no choice because there was only one car that met my descriptions within 500 miles on the east coast. :(

Thanks for all who replied to my question. The Canadian Base+Premium line sits in between the US Prius III & IV. The price negotiation process came to the point where the business manager finally came over to me with the salesperson after the third time of running around. By then, I knew it's time for me to take it or leave it. They knew I was very serious about getting this particular car because I showed them the dealer invoice info and the research I've done over a few months. I assumed they knew the risk of losing me going to another dealer if they didn't draw the final line. It could have been a good tactic or might have been a bad one for me to show my desire for the Prius. At the end, after reading everyone's comments, I now feel that it was a good deal. THANKS TO EVERYONE. I'll post more in about a month from now.

I purchased mine yesterday. MSRP for my Prius III was $26,824. After dealer fees and before taxes I paid $25,705. $1,119 below MSRP. Out the door for $26,500. My MSRP included the $400 price increase, so to compare to deals before the increase my deal was $719 below MSRP at the old pricing.

I agree with above and need to add that it seems to depend where you are located. California seems to have prices that are much below IL, east coast, or various other areas. I tried to get some off MSRP by visiting or calling about 12 dealers in IL and surrounding states. I worked hard at this and have been a very successful negotiator on other car purchases in the past. One dealer in IN was finally willing to give $250 off MSRP but it was for a model II that would have the typical port installed extra profit add ons such as floor mats and bumper protector.

The deal I decided on was a level II car with no port options in my choice of exterior and interior color. I had to pay MSRP plus $151 in documentary fees (added dealer profit) but negotiated a lifetime 20% discount off MSRP on all parts and fluids for this Prius plus a vehicle I bought 3 years ago at this dealership. The best part of using this dealership was a free lifetime powertrain warranty (mechanical portion only - not Synergy drive). Still waiting after 4.5 months but should have my car in a few days.

I agree that it must depend on where you live. I was told there was no room to negotiate. Seems to me that here they easily sell every Prius that comes in without discounts.

All of the Toyota dealers in Iowa that I have check are selling the Prius for MSRP, no deals in this state that I know of. The dealers do not have any Prius model's in their inventory on the lot's so they do not have to give any discounts to sell. It was like Harley Davidsons in the 1990's low inventory means it is a sellers market.

I just bought mine today in the Los Angeles area. I got a Prius IV with the solar package for $1000 below MSRP. It took bouncing a few different dealers off each other but wasn't too much effort. I left feeling like I got a good deal but maybe I could've squeezed out another couple hundred dollars. The dealer was friendly and didn't jerk me around at all, so I left feeling satisfied.

I took delivery of a Prius IV w/ solar yesterday for $1358 under MSRP. It was really painless, using the internet to ask for a best price. I think that since it was the last day of the month, and I was ready to go, helped greaase the skids. In and out in 90 minutes. Based on how many untis are in the lots, and how many are on boats, the rest of this year may be a great time to jump in.

I've been doing a little research and found that overstock.com has an agreement with certain dealerships. Their "preferred" dealer called me today and told me that they can order me a Prius for $749 over invoice.
