I don't like how the outer edge of the wheel peeks out from behind the painted hubcap. (No offense.)

I actually like that about it. I think it adds a nice touch.
Opinions and taste are weird things!

im tempted to try a variation of that. i think black would look good with the barcelona red. i believe i would use rustoleum plastic primer followed by black gloss spray. maybe black flat. not sure.

I had an '89 Tercel with the painted steel wheels and after a couple of years with the "sandblasting" from the grit and grime of regular driving the paint started peeling and they looked awful. Hope the wheel cover paint job holds up better than that.

What do they look like without the caps?? I think it's a rip. I didn't even notice that they were Caps until I got it home. They advertise Alloy Wheels. Who ever hear of Alloy Wheels with caps on them!

There are some great pictures, and discussion on ordering center caps for the alloy wheels, in this thread. Post #39 has a good pic of the wheels.

A good sanding with 220 grit, prime, paint with flat black enamel and finish with high gloss using an HVLP gun. The finish is as hard as stock.

No offense at all. If it weren't for different tastes, they'd only come in one color.

Honestly, i didn't think i'd like it either. I didn't want to make it look like a sports car (something it isn't). But when I had the windows tinted (to help protect gainst the florida sun/heat) the hubcaps looked way too light. I was concerned about the silve behind it, but in person, i think it makes more sense than in the photo.

I HIGHLY suggest using flat paint, and then finish with several coats of gloss. Oh, and if you do not sand first, not even the primer will stick well in the long run.

Me too. I will say that the finish is as hard as the original paint on the hubcaps.

i think it looks good without the caps. I did consider leaving them off. My thought was that if I didn't like the black, I'd just leave them off.

I probably should have mentioned this up front. The point of the pictures was to show what it would look like. Before I did it, i just wasn't sure how it would come out. I hope they help in making the decision for others.

I never heard of before until I started looking at the Prius. However, last night I was at the Honda dealership and saw a CRV with chrome hub caps over the steel wheels. I thought they put chrome plating on the steel wheels until I knocked on it. :p

Bling is the all chromed up look. De-bling'ed means that the bling has been taken away.

The black covers are thus de-bling'ed. But it still looks better than those 70's Mercedes with the body-colored hubcaps. :p
