The official numbers won't be in until tomorrow but forbes has a picture of the prius c on their article:D

March Car Sales Roared All Month Long - Forbes

On plug-in sales we don't have phv or leaf clues yet, but volt has an optimistic outlook. Those story lines that the phv and prius c would hurt volt sales seem contradicted. The phv may actually help volt sales as it gets people enthused about plug-ins.

I bought my Prius "v:" in early Februrary, knowing what was expected of hybrid sales and the rising price of gas.

I'm glad that I did. My friends look at me with envy and don't talk about the rising price of gasoline when I'm around.

I'm sort of glad my old car went kaput when it did... It's been literally 9+ weeks since I got my car and technically, I would have gassed up like 4-5 times now versus the 3. I still have another 2 weeks before my next gas up and I would have gassed up at least gassed up for sure this week, so I have been eeking out a little ahead.

Toyota, the largest seller of gasoline-electric autos, sold more than 25,000 units of the Prius “family” of cars, including the original hatchback, v wagon, c subcompact and plug-in Prius that goes as far as 15 miles per charge (24 kilometers), Bob Carter, group vice president of U.S. sales, said in an e-mail. The previous monthly best for Prius was May 2007, when it delivered 24,009 units.

Nice numbers, last month without the prius c and phv they sold 20,589 which was a high month for recent times. I hope Toyota can switch more production capacity to the prius c, which looks like growth might be constrained by shipments. Toyota is raising the price of the prius v.

i think they are maxing out what we thought was gigantic hybrid production right now, with sales in the Japan at +100%, probably most of it hybrids, i doubt it will improve anytime soon. Yaris Hybrid production has also started and Camry Hybrid and Lexus GS hybrids are also starting sales around the world.

it seems like liftback will be in short supply soon enough, i ofter check stock at cars.com and it has dropped 30-40% since 2 months ago.

volt sales are in at 2,259. Leaf sales are 579. A clearer picture of hybrid sales will come after toyota and honda report.

cars.com is really unreliable on car inventory.

cars.com is excellent for comparing inventories, and seeing them going up or down, it is only bad if you are looking for real inventory numbers.

Results are out - 28.7k Prius, 38.2k TMC Hybrids.

lol. I doubt the prius liftback or corolla are really in short supply, but dealers don't really want to post right now, as they are selling well. It exaggerates moves. If toyota doesn't increase shipments to dealers of these cars though to align with demand they could be short in the future. But prius c and prius v seem quite constrained right now. Toyota has announced price increases on the prius v and camry and highlander hybrid, because demand allows them to do it.

Thanks guys. Those are great numbers.

USB, I was quoting a forbes number for volts, but I see the other number also, lets just round it to 2300, which is a great number for the volt, but its a niche car. I expect that prii sales this month will outsell volts this year. The prius numbers are fantastic. Maybe the new models will finally get us to higher hybrid market share.

Does anyone know the breakdown in prius models?

numbers show they are, i bet there will be PR about it soon enough.
It doesnt make sense that dealer is posting Camry's properly but not Prius's.

In few days Edmunds will post their most wanted vehicle lists.

For the Toyota Hybrid discussion, see thread:
    http://priuschat.com/forums/prius-h...yota-lexus-hybrid-38-222-best-month-ever.html

38k Toyota hybrids sold in March, big increase over 28k in February where they ended up with 3.2% market share.

Thats almost 19% marketshare of Toyota in USA being for hybrid models.

Unless the Yen continues to strengthen (not good for Japan exports), Toyota is poised to grab more market share into this what is likely an increasing gas price environment, particularly in light of three major models of Prius now.

There is literally no other brand right now that has relevant hybrids for sale at the low price point and high MPG that Toyota does. They truly own the hybrid market wholesale at the moment.

I see other brands very, very, very slowly coming into the fold.

This is because they fear that inside you're laughing at them. And, that fear, well it's true. I try not to brag (too much) when people around me whine about gas prices, even though I've offered the benefits of my Prius and the absurdly low price I paid for it two years back whenever asked.

Nice bump for Volt. Yowsers on the Leaf numbers.

This vindicates anybody at Toyota corporate whoever pushed the Hybrid platform in the face of any opposition over the years. I really must imagine that other brands are encouraging strongly their R&D groups to look at meaningful competition.

I didn't say camry numbers were right and corola wrong. I said all their numbers are unreliable. It has to do with what dealers want to sell or dump, not what is really in inventory.

PR doesn't really accurately show the situation either. There are legitimate ways to count though. I don't know the numbers. Typically if corolla is underproduced its either bad logistics or they will add overtime. That's the type of information that would be out. There would also be reports of dealers ripping people off on corolla. The last time corolla was down to 30 days inventory, toyota had incentives to sell more. It was logistics to clear out inventory. We have this stuff on the prius c, but not on corolla or prius. Prius may get into short supply if their are not enough prius c's though:D

1 in every 5 Toyota sold is a hybrid. That sound good until we look at the Japan marketshare.

you are obviously not following the market right now, so read up why is Corolla not being produced in enough numbers.

i dont see a point in posting things just to post them.

Corolla is in short stock as well as Prius hatchback, both 30 days of supply or less... Corolla because they stopped imports and new plant is just starting 2nd shifts, which means they will not have full production for another month or two.

prius because its sales doubled, as simple as that.

Well then stop posting off topic information and quoting bad sources of data. I only posted to correct you. Corrola is not being imported from Japan because toyota was losing money on every one they imported. They only temporarily imported from Japan, because they had a shortfall in north american production after closing NUMMI. They have often had a 30 day supply. They can add production to Mississippi or ontario plant. What in the world does your love of the corolla have to do with a post on hybrid sales. Are you saying people are buying hybrids because they would rather buy a corrola but can't? Please stop with this idiocy.

Do you have this information from some authoritative source, that toyota can not increase inventory or produce more corolla in Canada? Do you have a line into them, or do you get this great information from cars.com as you stated. Does it have anything to do with this thread?

That has something to do with the thread. Prius demand is up, and they may not be putting enough on the boats. Hopefully toyota noticed this and worked on their logistics before a shortage occurs.:D

I am working on buying a Liftback right now and I can tell you that some dealers do not have the vehicle on their lot for sale so supply is limited in some markets. I am okay with driving an hour away to secure a vehicle, but many are not.

I ordered mine in october 2009, and had to jump on a canceled order. At that time they had them in california, but their was a real shortage here because they couldn't produce enough of the batteries. That dealer had 2 in stock with options that I didn't want. I just hit the same dealers web page and there are 3 pages of prii with all kinds of options. Supplies may run short, but right now its just a matter of not having them at the right dealers. Try to buy a prius c right now here, and you probably need to order it.

I bought mine on Tuesday (April 3); my salesman told me the dealership sold 60 in march. That seems like a lot to me! I'm glad I got mine when I did.

Full numbers are out, and it looks like mainly a toyota show. 3.74% for hybrids and plug-ins.
