Hybrid's value in the long-run

    Going green when buying a car is a lot easier on the wallet than buyers may think.

    According to a recent report by the British Columbia Automobile Association (BCAA), consumers can actually save money when buying a hybrid vehicle, contrary to some public belief.

    The study compared four hybrid models against their gas-powered equivalents, and found that in all cases the cost differential was minimal, and one model was $3,000 cheaper.

    It was the Accord H that beat the Accord, and the Prius hatchback did not prevail against the Matrix in this comparison.

    about time someone post a story that supports that hybrids are cheaper. Funny... it takes British Columbia to find this out. U.S. magazines can't figure out the math.

    whoa whoa whoa. Didn't I just post an article where Edmunds.com AND BCAA said that a hybrid wasn't worth the extra cost. Now, now BCAA, which side are you on? Something's fishy

    Also, why is the Matrix being compared? I know it's a hatchback but....

    Same BCAA Study.

    Very different conclusions by the reporters.

    It show just how much spin winds up in your daily news :)

    i like driving my car. i like filling up my tank less often. i dont care what "they" say about if its going to save me money in the long run. but thanks for the info anyway ;)

    I read this study in our Daily Newspaper a couple weeks ago and when we were looking at purchasing a new car we decided to go hybrid. I'm not up on the specs of the Matrix and was wondering if it was a fair compairson? I thought the Camry would have been a fairer comparision but thats just me.

    Anyways study be damed we should have our brand new Prius in September.

    I want to thank everyone on this site for helping my wife and I decide on this car. :D

    Prius economy critics claim that Prius is not a good deal compared to a Tercel, Corolla or Civic. Their numbers make Prius look bad. Having driven three Lexus sedans over the past 12 years, I find the Prius makes good economic sense. Prius rides better than an IS 300 and costs far less to drive than the IS300 or the ES300. At slow speeds it handles better than either Lexus. The $2000 tax deduction is great too. Using 10 gallons of $2 gas compared to 20 gallons of $2.2 gas to drive 450 miles makes good economic sense to me. Although I am often wrong, the Prius looks like a hell of deal compared to a Lexus and nearly as comfortable and as much fun. Lexus may well have been the best car of the 20th Century. Prius may to be about the best car so far in the 21st Century.
