Hymotion & Scanguage to show actual mileage

Does anyone know how to make Scanguage show the correct mileage when using the Hymotion. When in EV mode the MPG does not show 9999 like it should. Sometimes it will show 200, 2300 or something else random.

Love the Hymotion, but I have no idea what the actual mileage is at this point.

I have the same problem. We are pretty much out of luck unless the guys that make the SG update the firmware to fix the issue.

I cant wait to see some of your results.

Have you contacted Scanguage to discuss the problem? If not, I'd be glad to give them a call. So far, I have driven 200 miles and lost the first gas bar. I know you have it tied to your computer, but the display shows 53.1 and scanguage is showing 74.1.

I'm not using the SGII as my final MPG numbers. I will use my fillups. Which will be averaged over many fillups but will also take a while since I don't put a lot of miles on the car daily. I actually just filled up today 10/12(previous was 8/26). 957.2 miles 9.114 gallons That calculates to 105MPG. My MFD showed 98.8 at fillup. Other than the Hymotion, the only mods done to the car are 44/44PSI tires, reverse beep disabled, disconnected EV Switch.

I'm sitting at 305 Miles on this tank with three bars gone on the gas gauge. It will be interesting to see what numbers that I come up. I think my display does not show correctly when over 99.9 MPG.

I already purchased the EBH and I connected up my timer this past weekend. I needed to get better ramps to put the car up (borrowed them from my brother). I have been having thoughts as the cost benefits. Currently (warmer weather) I use .08 to .09 gallons of gasoline on my morning commute. At $3.02 a gallon that's .24-.27cents for the trip. By pluging in the the EBH for 3 hours @ $ .16/kWh that is ~.20 cents per day. With the hills, traffic lights and speed I doubt that I will only use .01-.02 gallons for the trip. I do believe that the cabin would be warmer faster as the days get colder. I hope to get it in next weekend. I also wanted to get my first full tank in before doing other mods so that I have something to compare it to.

How much electricity does the EBH pull when it is on? Does it really need to be on 3 hours to get the engine at the optimal temp?

I have no experience with EBHs. I am waiting for the Prius EBH that I ordered last week. That is why I am asking these questions.

I've gone 229 miles since my last gas fill-up and my fuel gauge is still displaying ALL the bars! I don't have a ScanGauge, but my Prius display says that I am averaging about 78 mpg. If that's true, I should have used almost three gallons by now. So, my actual milage may be a little higher.

Does anyone else get the feeling that the fuel display becomes very inaccurate with a Hymotion battery installed? That is my first impression.

I asked a similar question a few months ago. Was told that the EBH draws about 300 Watts.

That would mean it is drawing about 3 amps from a 110/120 volt outlet.

If that is accurate, then if your electric rate is 10 cents per kwh (USA ave), you likely are only being charged about 3 cents per hour to run the engine block heater.

So the only variable left to calculate is length of time. How long does the EBH need to be allowed to run to get the Prius engine to the optimal temp? Then put the EBH on a progammable timer and set it to preheat the engine that amount of time before you typically leave in the morning.

In reading through the EBH threads the consensus seems to be around 3 hours. Also forged into the end of the heating element is 400W. I am pretty sure that this is not a precision element and it will vary. I have been using 400W as my estimate. I do hope that many of you only have to pay $ .10 /kWh (or less) for your charges. Our base rate is .095 but once you factor all the other costs on the electric bill ours is .16 /kWh.

My local electric rate is 0.08 per kwh. After 600 kwhs, it is about 0.09 per kwh. 70% Hydroelectric in the Pacific Northwest.

But even using 400 watts per hour X 3 hours = 1.2 kwhs.

High cost electricity: 1.2 kwhs X 0.16 per kwh = about 19 cents per day to preheat your engine.

Low cost electricity: 1.2 kwhs X 0.09 per kwh = about 11 cents per day to preheat your engine

So with gasoline at $3.00 per gallon, does it make sense to use an engine block heater? $4.00 per gallon?

If you goal is to merely save money, it likely didn't make sense to install the Hymotion system to begin with.
