If you can exceed the EPA rating for your car, you would be a hypermiler.

I believe that at CleanMPG(as well as GreenHybrid) you also need to hold that for 5K miles.

I will do my best. I ahve only owned the car for 3 days, and 1 it was getting refurbed in the shop. Don't think I will have problem though.

And it's an easier status to attain these days, since the EPA estimates for the Prius have been lowered from the original figures of 60/51 MPG.

Not just that, but the definition has changed too. It was quite different 5 years ago.

Yeah, pretty much the official definition of a hypermiler is anyone who consistently exceeds the EPA estimated mileage for their vehicle.

With that definition, it doesn't matter what kind of car you are driving, where you drive, how much you exceed or how you do it. With this definition, I converted two coworkers into hypermilers simply by giving them some driving tips to try and spreadsheets to track their progress.

The details are in my blogs, documenting what occurred back then as it happened... knowing that change was inevitable later and figuring some might not believe that past from looking back at it later.

So, anyone who consistently exceeds the EPA estimated mileage for their vehicle should be called one. Since it applies to all vehicles I'll start to grind mine lol :cheer2:

I consider myself a Hypermiler. You need to go over the EPA combined mpg, and do it in a SAFE WAY. Drafting is NOT A SAFE WAY, and not smart.

My 2007 Toyota Yaris HB, EPA 32 mpg combined (highway and city).
    Since new 47 mpg (25 months), 2008 50 mpg (10 months), 90 day average 53 mpg (3 months).

I hope to someday get a PHEV, in a few years when the mileage is better.

Have averaged over 60 on the curent tank but it's not how I like/want to drive. 55 is probably more my style.
