I dropped Tire Barn as a sponsor and have a MUCH better deal with Sullivan Tire. I talked to Craig Sullivan at Indy on 4/18, a test and tune and he remembered way back when I started out at Bunker Hill and raced against me in Sportsman. He now runs a rail in Super Pro. I mentioned that he should sponsor me. We talked it over and now it is official. He has stores in Danville, IN and Avon IN too. Mike Bagley, another Super Pro driver of a rail dragster is his shop manager in Avon and I was racing at Bunker Hill when he started out. They do a LOT more than just tires. Nothing against TB, but they started NOT living up to their full agreement that has been in place since 1990.

    Sweet! Congrats, man!

Every bit counts. Thankfully you don't break much in your class. :)

This is lengthy, but photo links at the end.

I bracket race. You make a couple of passes and when it is time for eliminations you put your elapsed time on the side of your car down to .01 as does you opponent. The slower car gets the head start. If both have ran exactly what they said and both have the same reaction times in regard to the green light then it will be a dead heat at the finish line. Though not the closest race I have been in, the most diverse was when my 3 banger Geo Metro was pitted against a mid 60s fuelie Vette. I had dialed 19.90 and he dialed 7.70...we both ran only .002 slower than our dials...but I got him on the reaction time, my .030 to his .036, I beat him across the line by only .006 with m y 65 mph to his 170+ mph pass! If you go faster than you say you loose, unless the other guy goes quicker by a larger amount.

The 84 Horizon has nearly 300,000 miles and in the first 100,000 miles it went through 11 of the 5 speed transmissions, even ones from the turbo cars AND the motor was totally worn out. It also was ripping out the radiator support and motor mounts at a regular rate. In went a bone stock 84 hp motor and automatic from a 2000 mile 88 car. That motor and transmission lasted another 100,000 miles with no breakage. At that point the entire powertrain was shot. In 2006 a friend gave me he freshly rebuilt transmission and 235,000 mile motor from his totalled minivan. Last year that motor was replaced with a low mileage motor from a 94 Dodge Shadow, the transmission fluid still looked new! I think that this updated motor and the old rebuilt transmission should last past the 400,000 mile mark on the car.

My 05 SRT4 Neon came with 230 hp from the factory. It currently has 335. I have broken 2 stock axles and one aftermarket one. The axles in it now should be fine since they are rated at 750 hp! The transmission broke a input shaft. A fresh shaft was put in and should last another 50,000 miles...the car has nearly 80,000 miles now.

The 95 Neon was borrowed from my mechanic when the SRT4 was broken two times in 2010....I was runner-up at my first race with it and then won the Stick Shift Nationals! A year ago March I bought it and last year I made money in 8 of 12 races and was 3rd in points in the united Manual Transmission Racers series. So far...knock on wood...I have broken NOTHING drag racing it.

The 96 Geo never broke...only on track for 3 races and made money in 2 of them. I sold it last year since the 95 neon gets 46 mpg at 55 compared to the 60.1 that the Geo got, but the Neon has AC, four doors, and cruise. We actually save more money with this car compared to the Geo since we drive it a ton more...the wife would NOT ride in the Geo.

My 05 SRT4 that has a best now of 12.17 at 119 mph giving a modded Mustang a two second head start! Nice 33 mpg at 55 mph!

The 95 SOHC Neon that barely runs in the 15s, near stock. Nicer 46 mpg at 55.

My 1984 Plymouth Horizon with only 94 hp stock 2.5. The huge tires were on it for only one pass. The 22.5x9x13 hooked just as good as the tiny 20.5x7x13s but slowed the car down over a tenth. I use the tiny slicks now. Only 24 mpg.
