Last year a friend of mine bought four 2011 Prii for his company sales team. One of them came with illuminated door sills. Guess which car they are on now..... Thanks to this thread installation (actually switching the illuminated ones from 2011 to 2012 and vice versa) took only about 20 minutes. Battery was NOT disconnected on either vehicle.
So, what makes these light up if you just pop them into the holes? Are there pre-existing contacts built into the car and the door sill protectors that come into contact whenever the sills are popped into place? Or do these rear ones not illuminate?
ok, cool. I have aftermarket ones that light in the front and back, and I was dreading when the time came to wire them up....so I was excited that I finally had a how-to video that would show me!
Got mine this past weekend and was able to install them in no time.. I'd say an average of 5 minutes per side (not counting the rears, since those are no more than 1 minute per side).. I'm very happy with the way it came out, absolutely worth it, in my opinion..
I agree, I like them, wish it was stocked like this and stock led on the rears, I did not like the aftermarket versions with the rear led so just went with the Toyota Genuine part. It looks fine I just didn't prefer it. It will make you want to upgrade your OEM puddle, interior Map / Dome Lights. Since it will become more apparent how dim / yellow they are. I am leaning towards a Neutral White or Bright White SMD approach. I have not found ones that I would like to buy yet and at the right price. As expensive as some of the kits are I would rather build one with the higher SMD LED technology that is out right now.
I couldn't agree more. My car lights up like a baseball stadium. Two of these in my dome light, smaller versions for the map, vanity, puddle, and trunk lights.
GoldPianoGarden, are those the ones from Tommy Kaira? I believe there are two different versions. If those are the ones you have could you upload pictures. I have a Red Prius and think that the Toyoto OEM Sill Plates would look bad as they have a blue light. I know the TK versions have red light that shine through the RR in the symbol. Or does anybody know if you can change the color of the bulb in the Toyota OEM Door sills (for me I would change out the blue and put in red).
I cannot find the answer to this question in all of PriusChat forums. Anybody? I have a red prius and have been wanting to purchase/install these but not with the blue color bulb. I would probably switch out to red or white.
I have not checked, I will uninstall it to see if I can remove the sill with out damaging it, wish I had those Vinyl panel remover tools for that =)
Sorry for delay, rediculously busy and finally got the removable door panel tools, Hopefully this helps, for what its worth...
ExLED has them out, I just got the map lights and they fit great, just happened to be the wrong color, they also have the diffusion film for the light to help with dispersion.
No, they aren't the Tommy Kaira ones. They are from the same seller on eBay that links have been posted about previously (seller is 'abravepig', or something like that). I contacted them right off the bat, because I liked some of their designs I saw on some of their other cars, and they "customized" 4 of them for me so they say 'LEXUS'.....to go along with my Lexus theme on the car. I'm thinking they also did the white LED for me....but I've slept since then. I was originally gonna add some of the blue Hybrid-esque accents to the car here and there, so I mighta ended up going with the blue lights after all. But then later, I decided against any blue stuff after I saw how well I liked just the black and white theme. I have yet to hook them up, so I don't know..and can't remember! lol Also, I just got the notice in my email this morning that u messaged me DAYS ago. Sorry!
