I have a pkg 3 and notice a message about nav not installed when I attempt to access. Is there a way to add Nav into a pkg3 MFD?

Get yourself a portable unit. I don't think you can do anything with the MFD. It's a different MFD with the NAV option.

    Buy a portable Garmin Nuvi.

But if you are dead-set on MFD integration buy the Garmin GNV-53 and add a aux-video input for you MFD.

Besides the different MFD for nav-equipped Prii, there's a DVD unit under the console, extra wiring, and an antenna. It would cost thousands to do it if it's possible at all.

That sounds like a great idea. You shouldn't need an aux-video input if you follow the instructions on this link for using your reverse camera input.
    Reverse video

This way, you should be able to still listen to music.

I may give this a go and post pics.

You won't have touch screen control from your MFD if you use video-in.

You would use the remote control that comes with the Garmin. This way, you would have a nice large screen without having to have an aftermarket nav stuck to the windshield. Does anyone know if you use the reverse camera input method if there would be a warning message on the bottom of the screen at all times

yes, you would have the warning message.
An aux video input device would fix that. Someone here has done this, but I don't remember who..

Word of warning: The GVN-53 does not work with the back up camera hack. The GVN-52 works though if you can find one. I tried the GVN-53 and all you get is rolling, ghosted video. I swapped it out for a GVN-52 and it worked fine.

So the GVN-52 will work in video in however if I hook that up does that disable the backup camera? Not sure yet if I need the Nav but I do like having the camera so if I lose the camera to have the Nav will probably stay with the camera. If one does integrate the Nav does the Map button now become enabled on the steering wheel?

You will have to do your own custom work to make the MAP button function with a GVN52. To keep the backup camera fully functional you will need a switch for the camera input. The easist way is a simple toggle switch to go from camera to nav.
