I've been investigating the possibility of adding an interior hatch release (a button to open the hatch). After looking at the schematics from TIS, it seems to be very simple electrically.

My problem is that the schematics don't have any mechanical information (except for what the connector looks like). Does anyone know how I can find out where these harnesses/connectors are physically located? If I have to take apart too much stuff, I'm not going to bother.

Also, has anyone else attempted this?

The TIS system does have location information. Just click on a connector (or junction block or whatever) to highlight it, and then click the location tab. That should help you pin down the physical locations. I'd be very interested in this mod, so if you have any luck, I'd love to hear about it (and I'm sure I'm not alone). Good luck!

After I saw your post I looked at the wiring diagram and it does look easy. If I remember correctly the TIS had a location diagram in the EWD section. I thought I saw that the Main Body ECU was under the dash on the driver's side. If not the service would help. My new Prius is on order I will defiantly look into this when I get it, in about ten days. You have got me interested in doing this.

Unfortunately, my TIS subscription is expired. I just downloaded and saved anything that looked interesting while I had it.

I'll re-up my subscription after I get my car. We'll see then.

I'm missing something here. The hatch doesn't open all the way by itself, like a motorized hatch would (those are great, by the way). So what benefit would the inside release be? The person would still need to put his/her hand on the hatch at the license plate and lift - and at that point, they might as well push the existing button.

Just wondering how/when you would use this? I must not be considering something...?

An interesting note on the hatch release - during one of my mods, my hatch got closed with the battery disconnected (feel free to snicker...it WAS stupid.) - and I couldn't simply reconnect the battery without reassembling a bunch of stuff, and causing a bunch of trouble codes (not to mention getting to the battery, with the back panels in place). I had to crawl into the rear and use the "manual" release behind the little panel at the back of the hatch (I wasn't even sure there was one!), since the outdoor release is electric only...

It's so that you don't have to get out for people that don't know how to open it. I got the idea when my mom couldn't figure out it.

You didn't get out of the car and open the hatch for your mom? Bad boy.

    Ahh, thanks...makes sense.

Never thought of it - I don't make my mom ride in the hatchback.:D
