Will The New OS 3.0 Upgrade (available 6/17 ) Allow Audio Streaming With No Wires on the New 2010 Prius With Nav

This is similar to the OS 3 Upgrade on the Iphone.

    Thanks

 Wait! Are you saying my iTouch when upgraded with 3.0 software available on 6/17/09 will be able to Bluetooth stream stereo audio from my songs to the car Bluetooth receiver?

Conversely, will an iphone with OS 3.0 be able to stereo stream to a gen 2 Prius, specifically a 2009 with bluetooth?

Bluetooth Stereo Audio Streaming (called A2DP) is indeed being added to the iPhone OS 3.0. This is being touted as a feature of the new iPhone 3GS, however the update will add this functionality to older iPhone and iPod Touch models. The update will be available for existing iPhone owners for free on 6/17, however users of the iPod Touch will be able to upgrade for $9.95.

I have my 16GB iPhone 3G running the iPhone OS 3.0 beta paired with my 2010 Prius NV over Bluetooth and it works wonderfully. You can pair the iPhone with the Navigation system and the contact transfer works wonderfully and is surprisingly quick (it did about 400 contacts in just a few seconds). You can also pair the iPhone or iPod Touch to stream your audio wirelessly. One thing to note is that you have to pair the iPhone twice, once for the phone connect and the other for streaming audio.

While this is a very welcome feature, keep in mind that its not safe to adjust settings on the iPhone/iPod Touch while driving. It is great though to queue up a playlist (or quickly create an on-the-go playlist) before you start driving.

I am definitely looking forward to the iPod connect kit for Navigation system which Toyota estimates will be out in September. I would rather just sync all my music to a large iPod Classic and navigate using the touchscreen on the Navigation system. Until then, XM and A2DP streaming will definitely help. ;)

iPod Touches don't have bluetooth hardware, do they, so it won't work even with 3.0.

My question too. Perhaps the newer version of i-Touch has the hardware built in.
