Ok, long story short my wife signed up for a 4 oil change package on our first oil change at Power Toyota Irvine. The first time they changed the oil, the invoice showed the oil part number as:
    00920-1QT0W-01
Which a quick google search shows as being fully synthetic.

Now, we just had our second oil change, and the invoice shows part number as:
    00279-0WQTE-01
A google search comes up with nothing on this part number, but a similar 00279 part shows 5w-20 non-synthetic.

Any experts no what's going on here? Did they put non-synthetic oil in my car?

Apparently so, and if so your not the first, but you are smarter than most, you looked it up.

On edit, and if they are like my dealer, they will fix it by lining out the wrong oil and writing in the correct on on the repair invoice. I haven't been back.

That's why I bring my own oil, filter and gasket when I have the grease monkeys do a change. I also insist that they return the empty bottles. I also print up a list of what I expect to have serviced, what pressure the tires should be when I drive away, and I do check them before I drive away.

So far I have had NO problems. The Service Manager actually complimented me on being so clear as to what needed to be done. They copy my list right onto the service work order!!!

It's worth the extra prep time, and if something is wrong, try to spot it before you drive off the lot!!!

    Makes life much simpler!!!

Interesting, whenever someone starts a post by asking "Is my dealership ripping me off?" the answer, in so many words, is usually "yes".

This is just another example of why I now change my own oil...

No, they are not "ripping you off" 00279-owqte
is a full synthetic Toyota specialized motor oil.
I'm holding a bottle of it in my hand.
a reputable dealership is not out to "rip" people
    off.

What is the weight of this oil? 0W-20 or 5W-20?

Thanks! That looks exactly like one of the 5 quarts of Toyota 0W-20 I bought for my next change.

Interesting, the quart I saw at the dealer was red/gray. They told me that it was full synthetic.

You are correct. We were getting the Toyota 0w20 Synthetic in red bottles. The latest shipments are now the black bottles pictured above.

I learn that you can buy two types of 0W-20 synthetic oil from Toyota Dealership. Red labeled oil says “full synthetic” (No.00920) and green labeled oil (No. 00279) is only “Synthetic”. I paid $7.76 and $6.75 respectively. I don’t know if No. 00279 oil could be a blend.

BTW, A Tustin Toyota parts department guy has just told me that 10000 mile oil change is now official, as Prius engine doesn’t work as hard as other regular engines and I will get a revised notice on this from Toyota soon.

The parts guy also confirmed that we don't need to change oil filter cartridge at 5K miles, but we have to rotate tires at 5K miles.

Thats the same memo we got. going to 10,000 miles on the o&f if the customer likes that but nobody should agrue with a customer wanting it done sooner.

Nobody should argue with a customer period. Express your opinion & the reason. If you don't want to do what the customer wants then suggest they would be happier getting their car serviced elsewhere.
