Is there really a heat rejection tint

Window film I'm so confused I would make the investment in something other than Toyota installed film if it would improve comfort.

the first question that i ask people for window tint is what do you want it for 1.looks 2. heat rejection?

its pricey. tint guy had a heat lamp covered with madico tint (not too shaddy itself). my hand still felt hot under the tint. then he replaced the madic with huper. it was a world of difference. almost no heat coming through yet more optical clarity. The higher end ceramic tints will transmit less heat and have higher optical clarity than the super dark limo cheapo tints. brands include: huper optik, formula 1 pinnacle, wincos, solar gard ultra performance.

I'm glad that I have ho windshield. decided money went elsewhere for the rest of the car.

Yes, there are better quality of window film(tint) that will minimize the uv rays & heat from coming into the car .

It is a HUGE difference in heat. And I think the heat blockage would be the same with the lightest tint vrs the darkest tint of ceramic.

I would highly recommend the extra money in ceramic, the less you use AC, the more gas you save.

its been said that the premier's diamond ir is a rebagged wincos (top of the line of madicos). but who knows. still good stuff.

i guess jen has been overwhelmed by the responses or the prices or both?

I went with the 3M Color Stable. Huge difference and worth every penny.

I got the 3M Crystalline on my car and it makes a huge difference when you are in the car. Their film has a 60% IR rejection. The amount of heat hitting the side of your face or your arms is markedly reduced. But let's be practical --- parking your car in full sunlight is going to get the car hot. All the window tint does is delay the time it takes for that to happen (when comparing one type of tint to another). With temps right now well above 100 F, I consider myself to have some experience with the heat. YMMV.

+1, this stuff works pretty well, supposedly better than Huper.

Premier also has their new Photosync film out, but it is definitely expensive compared to Diamond Cut IR.

I've used Huper Optik Select Drei (35% tint/98% IR) on a Civic Hybrid. It cost $500-600 and installers are limited, but in my opinion it works as advertised. Surprisingly, the subjective improvment is not large, since when parked on a summer day with a front window sunshade, there is still a lot of heat coming down through the roof and up from the pavement. It's easy not to notice the difference in interior temps until you sit in somebody else's car and it's scalding hot. Totally worth it for the comfort and mpg improvements. Sorry, I have no experience with the Premier Diamond Cut IR tint for comparison purposes.

I had Llumar window tint on my previous car and the spots where it had tint, I could let my hand sit in view of the sun and no burning. The front windows with out tint, my hand burned pretty good. And this was just with a very light shade of tinting due to I dont like very dark tints for night time driving.
I also notice the Prius windows on 2012 are ever so lightly tinted but they seem to block ZERO UV on my hand test. My skin still burns.
I am fair skinned so I burn with ease specially when its been 110 lately around here.

The factory front side glass has a 91% UV cut rate, so you're just hypersensitive to low levels of UV coming through as you burn easily. This wouldn't be the case with most people.

I think some one should test it if really blocks the UV like it says. I dont think it does. My girlfriend is really brown. I will have her test and if she can still feel the burn then its g@rbage like I am thinking.
I think its one of those selling points for the car, like 100,000 mile transmission fluid change yet while members here test the oil and find out otherwise.

I have the 3M Crystaline and my car definately stays cooler with less ac usage. The amount of IR it blocks is like 97% IIRC and boy can you feel it but you definately pay a nice premium for it.

If I had to do it over again I would have taken the car from the dealership straight to the tint shop because it made that much of a difference.

Don't confuse UV cut rate with solar heat reduction rate. They're not the same thing. Heat rejection is a selling point of ceramic tints and the factory glass claims nothing of this.

Quoting IR rejection only is marketing deception. I suggest choosing the highest (as a percentage) solar heat rejection you are willing to pay for, at the tint (visible light blockade) you want.

In warm climates, I think most people end up with something like 30% tint in front windows, 40% tint in back windows; and 40-50% heat block in front, 50-60% heat block in back. Be aware of your state laws, and err on the side of lesser tint in front if you drive much at night.

SageBrush, it's better to look at SHGC than IR rejection? Part of the problem is this number isn't always published.
