Start your car and go to settings from the steering wheel. You can change the language!! I know it will be hard for you to get to that setting option in the first place. But google what's "setting" in Japanese and then "language" in japanese and then "English" in Japanese. Print this out if you have to and then press the disp button on the steering wheel. Best of luck

Pic 1 Please touch power switch with your key while pressing the brake pedal.

The above warning is displayed when the key battery is drained.
JP Prius does not have the language change feature.

    Sasi,

Ideally you could change the display settings from Japanese to English with a few button presses, but from what I've heard, Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) cars that are typically imported from Japan to Sri Lanka do not have the English display option. I hope I am wrong but that is what I've heard. Many of the Prius in SL are actually imported from Britain and in these cars the displays are in English.

I would suggest you contact the agent you purchased the car from to see if the display can be changed to English. Also ask your question at the AutoLanka forum (google: AutoLanka forum). There are several Sri Lankan Prius owners who live in Sri Lanka on AutoLanka who can help you.

By the way they report their Prius fuel economy in Sri Lanka to be 19-24km/liter.

I am having the same problem here...

I have read the forums of AutoLanka, but could not see a solution for this (as at March 2011, pl see for your self because I may be wrong).

I also started a thread on this topic, to see weather it is compatible to replace the Japanese MFD with a English one("English MFD on Japanese Prius")..... but yet no response... this is will be useful for you also if somebody could reply..:)

I assume your Japanese Prius is RHD, I wonder if swapping to the LHD North American ECU will adversely affect anything.

yes it is RHD.... but before doing the operation, I thought it would be better to have advise from some one who have already done that (if there are any..) :pout::unsure::unsure:

take a clearer picture without any of the lighting blur so people can use google translate to read the word. Its hard to tell what it is.
