installed the JDM Mirror side turn signals today. parts arrived from Sigma Automotive, OEM painted outer mirror covers, LED turn signal lights, and some female spade wire connectors.

removed door panels, removed mirror housing. disassembled the mirrors by pulling up on the mirror from the bottom. they snap out after a little pulling. disconnect wire to mirror glass (heated mirror), remove mirror motor, then find all the tiny screwdrivers and tiny picks you can to get the outer cover off. see link to pics below.

i don't know how to attach photos on this website, if someone can PM me with a "how to" on attaching photos. i will clean up this post with pictures attached.

outer cover off and test fitting the LED turn signal. fitment is perfect, the tabs and screw holes all line up.
they fit and there are tabs on the housing on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

hardware from home depot. aluminum #8 x 1/2" self tapping phillips head screws, some tiny female spade connectors, i also bought some 2 wire 18 gauge stranded copper wire for the project.

crimped the wires to the connectors, filled the hole with liquid electrical tape to keep everything water resistant. allowed liquid tape to set before re-assembled.
let the liquid electrical set on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

installed but not completely. i ran the wires into the engine bay, next time i put the car up on ramps, i am going to finish running the wires to the front bumper and tap into the front bumper turn signals for power.
Finished on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

hope this helps other. sadly there was No pre-existing OEM wires in the door to power the turn signals. i was hoping but no such luck.

Nice work! Here, I've inserted your photos into your post:

There are several ways to insert photos:

    1. Attach photos by clicking on that paper clip icon and uploading photos from your computer. The photos will appear at the end of your post as thumbnails which people can click on to open to full size.* A downside to this method is that you may have to re-size your photos first, which is something you don't have to do with methods 2 and 3 below.

    * If you attach thumbnails, you can still insert the full size pictures into your post. Just preview your post, open up the thumbnail photo, and then follow the instructions described in method 2 below.

    2. Insert photos directly into your post by clicking on that mountain/sun icon on the far right. You'll have inserted open and close wrap instructions. Then copy the URL/image location from your flickr (or other host site) photo and insert the URL between those open and close wrap instructions. This is how I did it above.

    3. Create a photo album on PriusChat for photos that you want to insert in your posts on PriusChat. Then basically, instead of inserting open and close wrap instructions and copying the URL from the outside site photo (like method 2 above), you copy the URL from your PriusChat photo album photo. But PriusChat makes it even easier than that --- just open the photo you want to insert from your PriusChat photo album, go to the bottom where there's a "BB Code" for your photo (which is the URL for your photo already wrapped between open and close wrap instructions), copy that BB Code and insert it right into your post.

    Good luck. Thanks for sharing.

    Looks nice!!!

So you ran the wires through the door, and then through the grommet in the door into the passenger compartment, and then through the firewall into the engine compartment?

ran the wires from the door straight to the engine compartment. no need to bring them into the cabin.

the wire comes out of the mirror cover and to the front quarter panel and into the engine compartment. i will take a picture and attempt to post it with Boo's instructions. for the record, i have tried all the examples that Boo's recommended but, for some reason, i can't get the friggin pictures to show up. all i get are the red X.

So, you now know it is not a simple task, and just replacing with JP wiring harness does not work. :)

Really it doesn't seem all that difficult. The only reason for having the wire harness Ken is to have the actual plug that plugs into the back of the lamp fixture. Not expecting it to be the quick plug and play situation or at least I'm not. I can't speak for the others. We just need help finding the part number so we can at least get the plug part so we don't need to improvise. It may never be seen, but I'll know it's not right. I'm sure there are others who'd feel the same way.

Most excellent work. I can't wait to see the illuminated, flashing turn signals once you finish the job. I have the turn signal mirrors on my '05 and when I buy a new Prius I will install new turn signal mirrors on it too. Bravo!

got them working, ran wiring from mirror cover on door through a hole in the front quarter panel. used wire loom to protect the wires from chafing. the wires slide in and out of the wire loom as you open and close the doors. ran the wires to the front bumper and soldered them in line with the front bumper turn signals. wrapped everything up with electrical tape and liquid electrical tape to protect from water. this is the drivers side.

do you still have the original black plastic pieces? I do fiberglass ork and would like to try and mold a set in carbon fiber with a 1/4 slit that I could back light a piece of lexan with LED's.

These mirror covers seem to be a very expensive option - material and labor. Question-did you consider those LED side marker lights as I have seen elsewhere in this subforum? The ones a guy mounted under the HYBRID emblem on each front fender. Seems to do the trick, looks very good. I'm considering that avenue....

i preferred to go OEM because i liked the look. labor cost me nothing since i did it myself. add another $25- $30 for misc stuff, like the wire loom, wiring and screws.

i did see the previous post where DeanFL installed aftermarket side markers. i even exchanged a few PM's with him asking various questions about his install. again, i prefer the look of the OEM side markers. Not that's there's anything wrong with Dean's stuff, his is another great option.

thanks for the thanks and the positive comments.

at the request of mgb4tim, i have attached these photos that show the inside of the OEM outer painted covers. note the prong clips that hold the cover to the mirror housing.

Where did you ordered yours from? I placed my order around that time from Sigma and still heard nothing from them. The only thing I got so far is the screen protector film and they said the mirror will come later.

Thanks for the pics. It's scary to see that looks like sanding mark at the base of the tabs.

I think I could mold this with fiberglass, maybe latex, instead. hmmm. wanna sell your old covers?
