My 2014 c1 has that same totally impossible to use tiny flat metal tab jump terminal under an orange plastic 12v cover buried in between the fuses. I can't imagine huge jaws of jumper cables not shorting out the entire system there. It seems like it would be easier to have the dealer tow it and put in a newly charged under seat battery when that inevitable dead battery day comes. Too bad we can't push start it instead.

Invest in a light-duty set of cables, keep them in the car? I'm thinking the heavy jumper cables are overkill anyway with the Prius, isn't the heavy lifting being done by the hybrid battery, the 12 volt just helps with electronics?

Come to think of it, I should get something like these too:

I just checked, with my old-school jumper cables: they fit on ok. That said, the weight of the clamp and the cable leading away seems to threaten the tab: seems if it where to get jerked something might break. Yeah, think I'm going to look for some light weight cables.

Just a thought: you shouldn't jump start another vehicle with the Prius. It's battery is pretty small, and wouldn't be good to be using light gauge cables either.

Toyotechwv, so did you ever do a swap and replace on the 2012 PC?

Lol it's only because I now have a couple PC 2012s (I have a delivery business) with a dead battery, and it's a pain in the nice person to jump them from the back seat.

Just got off the phone with the dealer service dept and they said it would require a ton of modifications to get the terminals in the 2012 into the hood. Probably $1000 of work. Guess I'll just look for some small jumper cables.

Maybe you can jury-rig: some short runs of heavy gauge cable with capped ends with some sort of terminator you can clamp to, in a more accessible spot.

Can they explain a ton? According to the wiring diagrams, the cable running to the fuse panel is identical in both cars... the only thing missing is the fuse panel with the jump terminal. Maybe there's something inline that is different?

They didn't explain it to me other than "$1000 or more" of labor. Has anyone done this themselves?

How hard is it to get at the battery itself. I think I would just try to get proficient at this. Maybe mod the cover so it's a little more quick-release?

Sorry for the revival here but was anyone able to do this swap into the 2012 model?

I'm very curious and interested in doing it

I was planning on it, but then I never once had to jump my car in the 7 years I had my first battery... after that, I didn't worry about it.
