Can't believe it, I've waited almost 3 1/2 years since putting down my $5000 deposit and another HUGE step just occured.

I'm the first non-signature reservation holder to report getting the email to Build your Model S!

Tesla's said that we'd get the email about 3 months prior to the anticipated delivery day, so hopefully by mid-October (estimated delivery says November, but I'm hoping that they're under promising and over delivering) I'll be tearing up the roads in my brand new Model S!

$90K. Is there any kind of black market? Do you get offers for $100K to get your place in line?

There seems to be a bit of a gray market for places in line. I suspect I could get someone to pay well over MSRP if I wanted...but I don't.

Very nice, Evan. Hopefully they'll get the production line up to speed & you'll have it in no time. Did you want black or didn't want to pay for metallic paint?

I really liked the blue, but didn't want and couldn't afford to pay for the metallic. I already disobeyed my wife by getting the upgraded interior, but couldn't stand the thought of that shiny, fingerprint showing, piano black dash and really wanted heated seats.
I also didn't really need the upgraded stereo, but wanted the XM satellite pretty badly so went for that. Had to have the Tech package...

With the Model S's lines, black is going to look great! Plus, it will be incentive to keep you car exterior pristine looking.:)

I agree, I think it's the most luxurious, stylish looking color, but I am worried about keeping it clean. If my time with the Prius is telling I'll do a great job with it for about 3-4 years, then it'll just be another "beater".

I have a black Corvette I've managed to keep looking good for over 6 years, but it has lot less real estate to maintain.

Congratulations! Please keep us all informed as things progress. I mean no disrespect to any of the other EVs out there, but I consider the Tesla to be the first “Real” EV, if it lives up to its billing. Just hearing that they have started taking the non-signature orders is terrific news. This must be a real thrill for you, and I look forward to hearing more soon.:)

Well, whoop-de-doo, you're buying a new car. It's not even a Prius. What on earth makes you think we care?

    :D

    Congratulations (once it arrives).

Gotta have the tech package. Check. Heated seats are nice. This car's getting more expensive every time I think about it. Hopefully the stock interior isn't too shiny... Made a note to check that.

I haven't seen it, but the reports on a specific thread on it at TMC suggest it's highly shiny and fingerprint prone. And that lacewood is just gorgeous.

Evan is in Missouri. I wonder how Tesla handles repair and maintenance.

It could, potentially, be a challenge. That said, they have a mobile Tesla Ranger system where the repair and maintenance guy comes to you (at a cost). Also, there is speculation that a Tesla shop is going to be put in in St.Louis soon.

The mobile rangers system works pretty well.
For warranty issues there is no cost. And as it is an EV, there is very little maintainance.
Tires can be serviced at any tire shop, as can, I believe, breaks and such.
Standard maintenance on the roadster is once a year.
