    Hi All,
Well I went to the olive garden today for lunch and then stopped at the nissan dealer to look at the new versa's. Well before I got the chance I saw a red 2006 pruis in the used car lot. It was mint with 43k and no door dings or scratches. I got it for 15,700 tax & tag. I still kept my 88 camry with 233k on it. My question is was that a good deal? I have been surfing the net and it looks like I made a good deal. Any tip or things I need to know, please jump in.
    Thanks,
    Boppo :)

Grats and welcome. 233k miles on an 88 camry. I bow down to you sir. I thought I had the oldest camry here, '92 with 160 miles.

How do you like the prius so far?

Congratulations. Keep it ding & scratch free by getting VentureShield or 3M film affixed. You'll also want something across the top of the rear bumper, either the overpriced applique or a rubber strip. Check your tp and pump it up to at least 40psi. The tires will last longer and you'll improve FE.

Sounds like a great deal to me. Were you able to buy an extended Toyota Used warranty from the dealer. The place we all know and love here on PC can only give out warranties if the car is still under its original factory warranty. However, the dealer selling you the car can offer you the Toyota extended warranty for a certain amount of time. There are some other good aftermarket warranty places...but that's likely another thread!

$15.7k seems right on...especially for that package. Remember, it's a Toyota, so miles don't mean as much to most folks. Hell, my Malibu has 173k plus on it...works just as good as it did with 38k. It's all about maintenance.

Congrats and as a fellow newb...glad there are more jumping into these cars everyday!

Keep an eye on your HID headlights. Unless they were replaced by the previous owner, you will probably have problems with them going out. There are numerous posts on the subject here on PC.

Well, really haven't drove it much, kind of cleaning it and setting up my phone book and stuff. I did notice a front left plastic wheel trim missing. Call the Nissan dealer I bought it from to see if they took it off when they detailed it. They said no and I would have to go to toyota and buy one.

I found a bill in the glove box from the orgingal owner so I called him up and he said he needed a truck. He said he had not had any problem with it. Lets hope I can say that also. I do have some condensation inside the left headlight assy. anyone got a idea about this.

You are beyond the mileage for a Toyota extended warranty. I suggest not getting one from anyone but Toyota as most are just an insurance policy and won't cover the expensive parts in a hybrid. The Prius is one of the most reliable cars on the road. Save your money and go without an extended warranty.

Remember that the hybrid portion is warranteed up to 8 yrs or 96K miles, so that portion (including the battery) is still under warranty.

As for the missing plastic part on the left wheel - is this part attached to the rim, aka the "trim ring"? In that case you might find some cheap here, because some people take them off for appearance reasons.

I have a 2006 and haven't had any headlight problems, except I should lower them a bit because sometimes I get drivers flashing me, thinking my dims are actually brights.

Try removing the other three trim rings and see whether you like the look.

Ditto skipping an extended warranty. Put the cost of one in the bank and let it earn interest for you. But do take it to a Prius certified technician (most of them are at dealers) to have it checked over thoroughly. Toyota uses proprietary diagnostic equipment, and only someone experienced with Prius will know everything to look for.

It's pretty much whether you want to feel comfortable in case something should happen. It's really a matter of personal taste. I prefer having a warranty if available...but I completely understand the folks who enjoy using the Toyota emblem as their warranty! :) I've never had a Prius before...OR a Toyota...so I opted to spring for the extra peace of mind. I'll probably never use it...but whatever. Its there should something happen. Value is a state of mind...

Nerfer, yes it is the trim ring, if I could get 2 that are in excellent shape that would be great. One of the 3 has a peace broke off.
