Just bought a v Three last week and I am so far very satisfied with it. This is the first Prius that We've owned. I was very surprised however that the v Three didn't have DRL or the auto headlight options which are standard in my 2000 Toyota Sienna LE. I consider DRL to be essential for safety reasons and the "auto" headlights are just convenient. Apparently these options are available only with the v Five. I wonder if these features are so expensive so as to have them only in the top model? Does anyone lese find the lack of these features to be an issue?

    Try this:
    Start your v to Ready
    Turn on your headlights
    Power off your v
    open either front door
30 seconds later your headlights should turn off
Now just never mess with the headlights again.

(The dealer can change 30 seconds to 0, 60, or 90 seconds)

I too was very surpised there was no AUTO setting for the headlights. But Jimbo, according to your suggestion, wouldn't that mean your headlights are on all the time?

No, Just when you are in Ready mode, and for 30 second after you leave your car. Not when it is off, except for that same 30 seconds.

Thank you JimboPalmer, it does work!
I see that the times are customizable but couldn't find the instructions for customizing them in my V three. Can this be customized only by the dealership?Or is customization available only in the V five?

What I meant my "on all the time" was when up and running in Ready mode. So even if it's a bright sunshiny day, your headlights will still be on?

Correct. You'll be driving with your low beams & taillights on all the time.

Dealer customisable. The Five just allows the owner to do it in the car rather than take it to a dealer.

Even on the 2012 Prius, Toyota kept the automatic headlight option to the Four and Five trim levels. I don't know why it's supposedly a luxury feature (Toyota Canada does the same with illuminated vanity mirrors. It doesn't matter if you bought the base 4Runner or Sequoia, you're not getting illuminated vanity mirrors unless you buy the Limited trim level of the respective models)

You can do it in the three.

    Once the car is on-

-Push the setting button on the right of the touch screen
-When the menu screen comes up, pick vehicle
-When the vehicle settings screen comes up, scroll down one page and you'll see auto head light off setting.

I found it on my three while pushing buttons to see what customization that I can do. :)

I have a Prius V model 5 and it does not have DRL. I called the dealership and they said for 2012 none of the Prius' will have DRL's.

I am a little surprised that they omitted the DRL from the Prius v. I have always been in favor of them. I am training myself to turn on my headlights whenever I start the car.

2sk21 you never need to turn them off, so you never* need to turn them on again.

*I find I have to turn on the headlights again after every oil change, some folk just HAVE to turn off the headlights.

I don't find this to be a viable solution since all the interior console lights dim when the headlights are on, making the instrument cluster and audio screen harder to see in daylight.

My Prius v 5 with ATP has an auto setting for the headlights that (if equipped, and I now know that mine is not equipped with DRL) performs the following function; "The headlights, parking lights, daytime running lights and so on turn on and off automatically (when the “POWER†switch is in ON mode). - from manual http://www.toyota.com/t3Portal/docum.../sec_02-03.pdf
I thought I saw my prius v headlights were on during the day Prius v 5, but I was wrong. I must have been in the garage or just seeing what I want so see. The AUTO headlight setting just uses sensor to turn on lights when it gets dark outside. Copied from specification documents http://priuschat.com/forums/prius-v-main-forum/98162-2012-prius-v-press-release-materials.html
    Prius v Five adds –
    - LED headlamps with auto level control, auto-on/off feature and headlamp cleaners

This video shows the Euro version: Prius+ with DRL. I don't think even the Prius v Five has DRL.

I didn't know that the v5 had auto wipers. That is neat!

It doesn't. European models have rain-sensing wipers.
