My local dealer has a 2010 prius 5 (v package, whatever) with 19k miles. I am interested in it - mileage, nice color and like the high option package 5. What I don't get is their asking price of 27k... considering a new package 5 can be had near this price.

Am I crazy to think that that car should be selling near 19-20k? The car was put in service late 2009 so the 3 year bumper to bumper will be up and i dont think its CPO.

How would you approach a dealer with an overpriced car? I would never buy it at this price or anywhere near it. I would buy it if we can agree on price and the car checks out

I would offer them the price you want to pay, see what they say.

Going by real prices paid as reported by people, Ebay used prices and Dianne's prices (28k for brand new 5), its obvious that kbb is not a good measure.

That sounds about right to me. The depreciation on all Prius models is minimal compared to most cars. Often you're better off just buying a new one since a late model Prius will cost you almost as much as a new Prius.

Sounds about right depending on which dealer. This car sounds almost identical to one at Carmax San Diego...
