Love the forum, but what Prius have I ordered?

    New on here today having ordered my Prius a week ago. I would love to get a little more engaged in the forum and learn more about the beauty I am due to receive (but god knows when that will be...) however it seems there are some USA/UK specs I am missing...

    I have ordered the 1.8l T-Spirit model in a lovely blue color.... I have scoured my order documents and cannot find is I have a Prius III version V or IV or a 2010 model or.... oh who knows....

    I haven't added anything to the basic T-Spirit spec which includes rear-camera, auto parting thingy and bluetooth phone kit as standard... No need for a solar powered roof here in the UK...

    Can anyone explain this jargon to me?

    And if anyone know more about current lead times on the T-Spirit to the UK that would be great!

    :welcome: There are a few posters here from the UK. If you post your questions in the GenIII 2010 Prius Main Forum one of them may see it. A lot of people don't read the Newbie Forum so they may have missed you here.

    I know Toyota has different mixes of options and packages for every market so your car will most likely be a different mix than any of the U.S. or Canadian versions.

    Doesn't the Toyota UK website tell you what features you're getting on your T-Spirit model?

    Here's a link to the Toyota UK site for the Prius T-Spirit model, which seems to be the highest model offered in the UK:

    I don't believe the UK Prius model lines correspond directly to the US model lines, if that's your question.

    I (Obviously) know what I have paid for, but in terms of this forum I am not sure what is my comparative model, Gen III 2010 IV???

    If you have the parking assist, that is only available on a V, which is the top model in the US. I would assume, that since it was determined you have the top UK model, it would be most comparable, but from what I have seen on this site, there are pretty significant differences between the top versions available in Canada, the US, Australia, Europe...

    If you're comparing it to the U.S., it's the Prius V. Remember that it's hard to compare because of different equipment packages (e.g. you don't get LKA or DRCC but you do get IPA and the solar roof together compared to the U.S.)

    Thanks guys I think I get it now. I am sure these things are tweaked for local markets, but seriously are things THAT different between UK / USA???

    Yes, vastly.

    A US Prius V includes LED headlamps which are options on T-Spirit, but in the US that's the only way to get 17" wheels which are standard over here on T4 and T-Spirit. Sat nav is an option on Prius III, IV and V over there but only available (and mandatory) on T-Spirit here.

    No US model gets HUD but it's standard on all three models over here. Likewise all UK models get front fog lamps, while only Prius V gets them in the US. The US buyers don't get the hard-disk option in the audio system (part of the European nav system). Prius IV and V have mandatory leather, which is an option here on T4 and T-Spirit. We don't get Lane Keep Assist on any model but an alarm is standard equipment.

    And of course, the other thing the US buyer gets is to keep a few thousand dollars.

    At least this time around the cars are mechanically identical, with both countries (all?) getting exhaust heat capture - Gen 2 had a thermos for storing hot coolant - and neither getting a bladder in the fuel tank (we didn't have it, they did).

    Yes. The vehicles are designed and packaged specifically for each market as determined by the local distributor.

    Thanks for explaining all this to me. I can see the logic but at the same time it truly baffles me why they options are so varied (it must really slow things up on production lines).

    Anyway, from what i can tell now i should be sitting in my Prius anywhere from 8 weeks to 20 weeks time.... *twiddles thumbs*

    Costs, desirability, targeted demographic are just a few things they look at.

    For example, your cars are a lot better equipped because you expect them to be better equipped as you (quickly) move up the scale. Over here, no one's going to pay the price of a Camry for a Corolla, even if the Corolla had all the luxury features found on the Camry (SKS, auto A/C, power seats, heated seats etc etc).

    We're slowly accepting the concept of a smaller vehicle with big-car luxuries. In America, size = luxury. The bigger the car, the more "luxurious" and pricier it is. In Canada, we tend to buy smaller cars (Our best selling car is the Honda Civic while in the U.S., it's the Toyota Camry), however, we tend to buy basic versions of small cars. Automatic, A/C and maybe a few creature comforts like central locking or electric windows will suffice.

    Of course, it's a gross stereotyping but that's the general market. It's also changing rapidly with Canadian and Americans increasingly seeking smaller vehicles but want to maintain the luxuries they had with their old vehicle.
