We should put together a mpg clinic for Sacramento members and another for the bay area. :)

Is there a similar guide to "super highway mode" (Pulse & Glide for high speed conditions) or can that only made known to members with a +10 Foot of Stealth in the 33rd Order of the Gliding Guild? :censored:
I see it discussed in tantalising fragments among those with a +1 Module of ScanGauge on these pages but can it be explained to us initiates with a +2 in Start Button? o_O

I just popped in to say THANK YOU ALL for this awesome forum and all the great hypermiling tips. I've had my Gen III for about a month now and am slowly seeing my fuel economy improve as I am improving my driving techniques and am becoming accustomed to driving without AC. It is so awesome and fun to see my MPG slowly become better and better! :D To all the other newbs out there, it definitely takes time and practice to figure this all out if you've never tried this style of driving before! Patience is key!

It does take time to learn how to drive efficiently. You also have to condition yourself to drive slower and undo all of the bad habits you have learned. If you approach it with the right mindset it's like playing a video game that pays you. :)

Funny, that is exactly how I explain it to everyone. Driving the Prius is like playing a video game.

Great video! I watched this the first day that I got the new car and have be trying these techniques. I watched again today (1 week later) and picked up even more info that I missed the first go round. So far I'm really loving the new Prius.

So I watched this and other videos about a dozen times and read some articles and during a glide the display is suppose to show no arrows correct? I can get it to show no arrows for a second or 2 and then an arrow appears on the display. It's either using battery power or charging the pack. Am I doing something wrong? I use Eco mode when attempting a glide to soften the pedal do I don't push too hard but doesn't seem to glide with no arrows for more than 2 seconds :(

John, stop looking for arrows. It doesn't work for the GenIII. :)

In a glide you want the HSI display to look like this.

    Or with 17" tires. LOL

By summer you'll have it down and your mpg will skyrocket. :)

This is a great video and I use the techniques with my Prius Gen 3 and it works like a charm. Should I share this video with a Acura ILX Hybrid owner who asked me how to improve her gas mileage? The eco screen is not in the ILX, but if she practiced the techniques would it help?

Thank you for this video, really helpful.

I tried a few times during the only km I've done so far (500) to do the pulse and glide at 100 km/h (60 mph), I'm not sure if it's a good idea, but I live in a place where there are a lot of mountains and it's rare to be on a flat road and it is possible to do the pulse and glide on small slopes at 100 km/h.

Do you think I should continue to try this? It's really hard because once I put a little bit of pressure on the accelerator and the motor starts again. A small bumb and whoops motor is running. I just hope this will not cause me an accident because I always look at the HSI.

I've learned some of these techniques after the first week, but your fantastic video taught me many more! This should be a 101 video to Prius ownership! Thanks!
