Mileage tax on hybrids/ev's?

Well health care costing at 50% more than Europe spends is eating up 20% of US GDP and out of control Wall St raiders are also causes but the central cause of US deficit/debt issues are oil use and the $14T in debt it has run up by military spending of oil wars and the $10T that oil import trade deficit has sucked out of US economy.

It's those pesky facts. They just won't change no matter how much magical thinking is applied.

US 50% less energy efficient than Europe
US imports 50% of its oil.
Oil imports of 4B barrels a year cost $500B in oil trade deficit tax.
US military spending of $1.4T is 70% to secure oil we waste because were are 50% less energy efficient.

Gas tax changes the equation. US uses 50% less oil, US stops hemorrhaging $500B a year in oil trade deficit tax, US military costs drop by $500B a year, 30% of US air and water pollution goes away. Deficits reduced, debt paid off by the oil use that caused the deficits and debt.

It works in Europe, it will work here.

 

What about require that the vehicle have the company name and logo painted on it (removable stickers don't count) at least a minimum size in order to get the tax write off? And maybe also require that the business make at least a certain amount of revenue within the next 3 years or so in order to avoid a penalty. Make it easy for the real businesses, not so easy for the fake ones.

 

A good start... But I know that it would be unpopular but it needs to be adjusted according to CAFE or EPA averages as well....

In the end it is about the quality of life each state resident expects. In Montgomery County there is Brookside Gardens that has limited fees regardless of residency.

No one wants to pay a big fee for use of soccer fields for their kids. Of owners want dog parks. etc.... But times change and tough choices have to be made....
