Thursday and Friday, in NYC, the Model S will be displayed for the public as part of its tour and advertising/order grabbing campaign. David Letterman is a Tesla fan (?owner) and Elon Musk, Tesla CEO, will be appearing, along with the new Model S on the show tonight.

I don't usually watch Letterman, but the DVR is programmed and I'll sure be watching tonight. Tesla has taken over 900 reservations for the Model S already, I think between the Letterman appearance and the NYC show they should easily pass 1000 reservations in just over a month since the 3/26 reveal. Pretty dang good if you ask me.

Cool. If my electric Porsche falls through and never comes, I'll sure envy you your early spot in line.

Yes, I'm pretty sure there will. Tesla is sending about 1/2 of their Model S production to Europe. I can't swear that I've actually read that they'll sell a RHD version, but since the first EU office will be in London (Summer 2009 opening) I assume that means they'll be RHD.

Are you still waiting for that Daniel? Sounds like it's being made by GM in their electric car plant.

Hope nobody stayed up extra late to watch that interview. I thought it sucked. Here's what I posted over at Tesla Motors Club Forum - Powered by vBulletin

    Please forgive my ignorance.
But given I live in the EU, I'd very much like to know what a "RHD version" means.

Delays, delays, delays. Half the delay time so far was waiting for the LiFePO4 batteries to arrive from China. Then the head electrical guy in the conversion shop was sick. They're telling me they're almost done, but I'll believe it when I'm driving it. If they're being straight with me, it shouldn't be more than another month or two, since they're saying they are "days away" from completion.

I know nothing about Letterman, since I don't have a TV, but the above it what I would expect from TV. TV is not about information. It's about entertainment. Most viewers would probably change the channel if they were given information. A TV host pretending to get shocked by an electric car is funny. Elon Musk talking about the car or how to order one would have been information.

    I say, shoot your TV.

We could have a betting pool: Who will get their freeway-capable EV first, Me or Evan? Right now I give it 50/50. (I specify freeway-capable because I'm still driving my reliable little three-legged clown car nearly every day. The Xebra hasn't given me any trouble at all in about a year. Knock on wood. *raps knuckles on head*)

    Which would you buy?

    Tesla S (50k$)

    Mitsubishi iMIEV (30k$)

I prefer the cheaper - and shorter range of the iMIEV, because it will be main car to & from work, my Prius for the longer trips / weekends.

I agree that it was disappointing in that so little time was given to actually showing the car and talking about it. They should have driven the car in FIRST and then discussed it and the Roadster and EVs in general. Probably Letterman didn't want to be over-shadowed by the car and/or Elon. I hope Leno has it on his show, if he hasn't already.

I like the looks and specs of the Tesla S much much much better. But I'd buy whichever comes out first (though I'm still hoping to get my electric Porsche before either of them is available.)

Someone asked him after the show. The "one important point" was that the Tesla costs about the same as a Ford Taurus when you figure in fuel & maintenance savings.

The Tesla Model S is one pretty car. If I had the money I would by that over any BMW or Benz any day. I do give Mitsubishi credit for the imiev.
