Hi: My service dealer, Toyota of Lake City, will install an electric moonroof in a 2004-2005 Prius for 1195.00. I will post pictures as soon as I can get one from the dealer. The sales guy I have been working with on this tells me that the company they subcontract to do the work, does factory quality installations; your moonroof will look like factory original equipment. I don't know how they managed to get a moonroof into the space between the aerodynamic "humps" on the roof of the Prius which is why I want to see pictures. I can't afford the price right now, but I thought some of you might be interested. If it can be done here in Seattle, other installers around the country probably know how to do it, and maybe for less money. Leather seats can be installed for the same price. Bob
I wouldn't be the first if I were you - could get ugly considering the sensitively engineered nature of our car. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Bob Allen\";p=\"41509)</div>
i would be interested in taking a look after you have it done... you should bring it by say... this Sunday at the WA St Priuschat meeting!! ya... oh?? too soon?? well ok... i guess blue prints will have to do then...just come by... Red Robin, Bellevue Square Sunday 2 PM...
What's the deal with sunroofs/moon roofs? You already have 4 windows in the doors. What do you gain by adding a 5th window in the ceiling? I've sat in expensive leather chairs. I think cloth is a lot more comfortable. Especially this luxurious cloth we've got in the Prius.
Also, I thought I saw someone mention that a moonroof would mess up the aerodynamics of the car and thus messing up the prime objective of the Prius: MPG.
I don't know what the big deal is with sun/moonroofs, but I do like leather because it's so easy to keep clean. BUT, cloth is much nicer to sit on because you don't burn your butt in the summer, and you don't freeze your butt in the winter. There are trade-offs to both.
well the accord does have seat warmers... but i think that not using leather goes with the Prius' "green attitude" in that the car tries to minimize its impact on the environment. although, leather is per se a renewable source, the tanning process used to create leather creates several highly toxic by products as parts of the northeast is familiar with due to a large number of toxic waste dumping issues from tanneries that shut down decades ago where areas started experiencing ground water supply problems in the 70's and 80's. that doesnt take into consideration that cows leave a much greater change on the Earth than growing natural made fibers by their being higher up in the food chain.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Starbug\";p=\"41630)</div> Yeah, like if you go skiing. Those slippery ski bibs slide as well on leather as they do on snow
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Starbug\";p=\"41630)</div> When you have had back surgery that "burn" is welcome. Wish we had heaters in the seat. My old Saab had seat heater.
Bruce, saw your new avatar and thought: [marq=right:7274b14646]\"Wabbit Season!\" [marq=left:7274b14646]\"Duck Season!\" [marq=right:7274b14646]\"Wabbit Season!\" (Aha! Pronoun trouble!)
Perhaps I'm missing something but how do you MOON the non Prius public without a moon roof? Not that anyone has been following but, although our 2005 Silver is at the dealers, for various reasons it's not available until Thursday 30th. I hope they are not reading the manual trying to figure out how to prep the young thing. :cussing: It did just arrive on their lot on Friday.
Possibly a stupid question, but what's a moonroof? Is there some subtle distinction from a sunroof? It's not a term I've ever heard.
I have no need for seat heaters. I wear longjohns in winter. What I want in winter is a steering-wheel heater so I can drive without bulky gloves. As near as I can figure, a moon roof is a sun roof that doesn't open enough to let the sunlight in. All it does is destroy your aerodynamics and let air in (which you get if you open a window!!!) But that's just a guess.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(KMO\";p=\"41764)</div> Really? A moonroof is made of glass and they are verrrry nice. A sunroof is typically thought of as solid metal the same as the roof. The car which my Prius replaced had a moonroof and leather seats. Oh how I miss them. It also only got 19 miles per gallon - which I do not miss. =paul= http://www.w8kc.com/priusmileage.htm
Okay. Over here, we'd probably call both a sunroof. But if someone said "sunroof", I'd assume the glass kind; the metal type isn't very common. My last car (a 1981 Ford Escort) had a tilt-and-slide sunroof. But it was manual, and if you shut the blind it pulled out all the roof lining with it. I think I'll survive without it
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(KMO\";p=\"41764)</div> I had a vague recollection that the term Moonroof was coined by Ford to advertise the first sunroof made of glass on the Lincoln Mark II or III. Lo and behold, I was right: [align=center:7775878e30]"Sunroof" is the generic term used to describe an operable panel in a vehicle roof which can let in light and/or air. "Moonroof" is a term created by Ford in the 70s, yet is now used generically to describe glass panel inbuilt electric sunroofs. Ask Yahoo![/align:7775878e30]
moonroof was a term started by James Bond!! oh wait... that might have been Moonraker i was refering to... and 10132003: was that definition meant to clear up something? i always thought a moonroof did not open and a sunroof did.
