Mounting your scangauge

I just bought a ScanGauge II and I have been through two sets of Velcro. It is extremely hot here and I think the heat is melting the glue.
I bought a stronger adhesive Velcro from Walmart that I tried the second time and it only lasted a day.
I mount it behind the steering wheel.

The only thing I can find on this board in regards to mounting is one thread and pic for a Gen III but it is mounted underneath the air vent which is not something I would want to do since it is hard to view and a Prius C thread/pic behind steering wheel that may work on the Gen III.

Anyone with a Gen III and ScanGauge please provide suggestions and pics if any.

*Edit/Added - the adhesive worked great on the actual ScanGauge and held really good. It was hard to peel off. The steering column is where it is not sticking.
Before I applied the velcro stick I used alcohol to clean surface and SGII before applying.
I was hooking the OBDII Plug from the side, should I plug in back?

I've attached the scangaugeII velcro to a three inch metal binder clip which I clip on the dashboard visor over the HSI display. I've got two scangaugeIIs daisy chained together via a custom 8 inch cat5e cable. The OBDII cable is threaded behind the 12VDC power outlet console to the OBDII port underneath the steering column.

I placed mine with velcro against the rear panel of the center under dash storage just above and to the left of the power outlet. It is low, but I can see it ok from the driver's seat and the cord routed easily between the plastic dash panels.

Just a few minutes ago I applied another thing of velcro that I just bought. This time I plugged the cable to the back instead of the side of the SG.
I may have to use something to prop it up a little higher on my steering wheel, it is a little low.

Wow that is pretty low. I look at it too much to have it that low. Thanks though for the response. I always like to hear different suggestions and opinions on my posts even though I may have a different viewpoint.

On the steering column. Dont know about the 2012, but it is perfect on the 2010 and the wire runs are simple and concealed.

Kalome, I have mine velcroed in the same place you do but mine is staying put. I would try using better Velcro from Home Depot or something. I would also run the cable into the rear of the device. You could try taping the cable down which would make the SG less likely to move and break its Velcro loose.

Plugged in the back of the SG I take it. I just did that about a half hour ago or so. Sits a little low though.

Yeah I think the mistake I made in the beginning was plugging the cable to the side of the SG. I applied some velcro I got from Autozone and now have it plugged to the back. It is a little low but I can still view it.
We'll see it how it goes tomorrow.

It does sit a little low and viewing it while turning the wheel can be annoying but I like how it is out of the way and doesn't look tacky.

Oh and buy a sun shield for the windshield from the PC Shop. It will reduce interior heat soak in the dash area and your SG. The display starts acting goofy when it gets too hot. I had that problem in my GenII until I got the sun shield.

I have a sun shield and use it all the time, but will probably buy the better one at the PC Shop. The one I have, it is hard to stay up...doesn't fit well. How is the one at PC Shop when folding it for storing...is it a pain?

I really like the PC one for its thickness and fitment but it is sort of a pain to fold up. Instead of rolling it up each time I just fold it in half and throw it in the backseat.

Sold. I'll do the same thing and fold it in half and throw it in back. I'm lazy like that.

It is not fancy setup (pretty cheap too) but it doesn't damage the dash in anyway. The binder clips may slip though and have to be push back occasionally. I came up with this solution because I couldn't get the adhesive on the back of the velcro to stick properly to the grooved surface of the Prius' dash board. My *binder clips* mounts were inspired from universal mounts for smartphones/gps units which clip onto the front dashboard AC air vents.

Using two of them might be a good idea. I don't think it would stick well having two (one on top of each other) behind the steering wheel.

Two SGII would be nice but I don't know where I would put it, unless you do the binder clips.
I have SOC, MPG, RPM and FWT. It would be nice to have a few more. I'm thinking ACW (A/C Power Usage), FLV (Fuel Level), GPH (Gallons per Hour).

I have my scangauge mounted on the left pillar. I bought the mounting bracket and cut the flat mount to the same width as the scangauge. I used superglue to attach it (How many time am I going to move it?). I put a piece of black electrical tape over the side cable connection to give it a more uniform look.
The mount is a proclip left pillar mount # 804356 and is about $29.95

I have a Prius 12 Model 3. On that model it comes with a GPS which takes up all that space.

Same with mine. The GPS/XM screen takes that space. That is why I went with the Proclip.
That is a real sweet look, though!
