Where did you have the tinting done, and what % are those films?

5% all the way around? Wow. That's pretty bold, but it looks great. Do you have any issues seeing outside at night? Any concerns about getting pulled over?

Its actually a lot better then my last car. I'm use to dark tint at night, but a lot much more visibility then my last car. I like it and I would recommend it to family bro.

During the day I just open the sunroof, if i see a cop. =)

i read that ceramics were originally designed for flat glass. having ceramics on curved auto glass defeats its properties. hence, the person argued that you save money and get llumar ctx (carbon) instead of pinnacle or axcess.

It is true that Huper Optik Ceramic films were designed for flat glass, so installation on a curved rear window is nearly impossible.

However, this does not mean its heat rejection properties would be compromised.

New 2012 Prius FOUR, dealer installed window tinting. Side windows fine but the upper hatch tint seems too dark. I inspected the upper hatch glass and it seemed that the tinting was OEM factory installed. My question: Is the upper hatch tinting factory installed? Any you Prius-ites know?

    THANKS

The upper hatch glass is tinted 74% in the glass from factory, no different from the rest of the windows except lower hatch glass, which is tinted 29%.

Either the dealer used darker tint on your upper hatch glass or it looks darker to you because of the steep angle.

How much curve would you guess would be too much for ceramic? I am really leaning towards this type of film because of the increased heat rejection. I was ok with non-ceramic on my 2004 because it was a white car. Having a dark red makes me think the extra heat rejection would be worth the added expense. I could be wrong (and it would be the first, or last, time at that).

Huper is the only film which has the problem with curved glass. This is because Huper was originally designed for residential flat glass. The Prius' rear window is flat enough where Huper can be used without issues.

Formula 1 ceramic, Llumar CTX and Madico Winco are all ceramic films designed for automotive apps that will not have any issues with curved glass.

Must be painful to tear the Formula One Pinnacle off. That's like $100 down the drain.

Wife got one for having 35% on her lexus, I think the cop didn't see the wedding ring, then had to think of something when he pulled her over.

I got 30% on my front two and 20% on the rest, I wish I would have gone 30% all around, without a sunroof, its pretty dark.

I really like Leo at TW Tinting at Santa Ana. I think he will strip it and then retint the front two for about $100 or so.

Or, makes friends with a cop, buy him a few beers, and have him sign off on your ticket.

Or, borrow someone elses prius that doesn't have tint and go to a police station (maybe put your plates on it) to get it signed off.

Do at your own risk as both of the above are likely to get you into more trouble if caught.
