My 2010 Prius V at 140,000 Miles Experience

    At 125,000 miles- put in new 12v battery at $ 180.00 while old one was still working at Toyota dealer. At 130,000 miles- changed spark plugs, radiator, brake, and transmission fluids plus oil and filter and tire rotation for $ 600.00 at Toyota Dealer. At 140,000 miles- Oil and filter and tire rotation for $ 60.00 as I have at every 10,000 miles at independent service stations. At 135,000 miles- changed front brake pads and ground rotors at Infiniti dealer for $ 200.00. Car is riding on third set of tires- Continental Contact DWS costing $ 600. Car is using its third set of front wipers and I just replaced the rear wiper for the first time- I buy wipers either at Costco or Walmart. Three $ 2.00 wheat-grain light bulbs have been replaced- two running lights and one reading light. No suspension or hub parts have been serviced or replaced. Key batteries have been replaced twice with a total cost of $ 32.00. The car has a trailer-hitch mounted bike rack and I have driven cross country several times with a bike mounted on it with no negative effect. That's it.

    Sounds like you're really on top of it. My only suggestion for the next one: change the transaxle fluid a lot sooner, then extend the interval.

    Thanks Mendel, I forgot to mention I'm burning a quart of oil for every 1-2,000 miles and my last service recommend getting a new head gasket. I plan on completing the complete service cycle again at about 90,000 miles and replacing the 12volt battery at 225,000 miles. Real world mpg has been mid 30's for city and mid 40's for highway.

    Why did they recommend a head gasket?

    They said it looked 'wrath they said it looked questionably on one edge.

    Looking questionable on one edge?...that's high a dollar job at the dealership. Hang on to that paper work. Have them prove to you it's blown. Loss of compression, oil in the coolant, coolant in the oil or either in the exhaust would be more convincing...then have it check again somewhere else.
