I want some big wheels for my PiP and need help deciding:

OZ Alleggerita HLT 18x7.5 Matte Graphite Silver ET+48
OZ Alleggerita HLT SE 18x7.5 Black with Machined Lip ET+48
    Motegi SP10 18x8 Hyper Black ET+40

Once I pick a wheel then I can decide whether to go 225/40/18 or 215/40/18, or ??? etc.

I would go with the matte graphite. Then go with 215 tires over 225 for a little stretch and to save a little on gas. The weight of the wheels alone will cut your mpg already. Also the machined lip will make the wheels look smaller

I have read that the tread width makes more difference than the wheel and tire weight. Also after posting, I realized I'd rather have something a bit glossy. I remember having matte black wheels before and they always looked like they had brake dust on them. I'm leaning toward the motegi's because of the spoke design and the cost. I can't find the weight of them though. Tire rack says 19 lbs, amazon says 16 with shipping weight of 18.

Yeah all 3 make a noticeable difference. When I moved from my stock persona wheels to the much lighter motegi I kept the same tires, from weight alone it saved me at least 3 mpg. I drive about 2k miles a month so i went for efficiency. Which motegis were you looking at?

I was looking at the motegi sp10 in 18x8 5x100 +40 hyper black but I think 215 might look too stretched for my taste; also they WILL get curbed, it's just a matter of will it be the tire or the rim. Depends on tire width of course.

I had 215/45/18 on my lexus I just sold which had 18 x 8.5 wheels. The tires rim guard was still intact and it didn't looked stretched at all. I'm not too big on the stretched look with the stance scene.

OH! I have been assuming a 40 ratio when referring to 215 vs 225. Do you think the taller overall diameter would fit the prius wheel well better?

Yes it should fill the gap better and will be a much more comfortable ride. Is your prius lowered now?

It is not. I had a 11 III which was lowered an inch, didn't help as much as the rear sway bar, except for looks. That also had stock wheels.

I don't know. Everything's so expensive...even used wheels, with "only" so many miles on them, for almost the same as new.

If you're concerned about mpg loss, 17s would be better than 18s.

Lower cost on wheels and tires too. ;)

215/45/17 is the stock size for stock 17x7 wheels on Prius. Prius V gets 215/50/17 I believe.
